Perspective from four years ago

Four years ago, I was alone in a hotel during Christmas. I didn’t want to live anymore and was court ordered to get alcohol and drug counseling along with other parameters. I had drugs and alcohol for warmth, no friends, only my father would talk to me. I lost my job. Lost my savings and investments,
I went to Louisiana where my father is and went to my first AA meeting. My life changed forever.
I have gained everything I lost back and received much, much more. My life is fulfilled beyond my wildest dreams. If you’re struggling with drugs or alcohol or both, there is hope.

It’s that time of year….. I can accept both joy and family and these stories.
Good on you for fighting through and being here today!

Hell yea bro. Nothing better that sobriety. It sucks at first but things get better as that dust cloud gets cleaned up and the day light comes through

My wife (no pics) is 600+ days into her journey and our relationship has never been better. God bless you each day along your journey.

You are not alone.
Definitely not.
I was about 10 seconds away from ending it all on Christmas Eve about a decade ago. Had gun in hand and loaded, safety off and ready to go. Then my phone rang like a miracle, it was my niece who was 5 or 6 at the time calling on her mother's phone to ask if I would be at Christmas the next morning.
At the time I had ostracized myself and vise-versa from my family and hadn't heard from any other member of my family about Christmas plans. After my fiancee died I had turned hard to opioids and was literally homeless, and didn't care to maintain relationships with anyone. My niece and I had a special relationship when she was born to about 5, as my sister had her when she was very young and I spent a lot of time raising her.
10 years later my wife and I just celebrated our 5th anniversary, our beautiful son just turned 3, we have a house we own near the beach full of amazing gifts and that same niece that literally saved my life along with parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, everyone. She doesn't know her impact and probably won't until she's much older, if ever.
The amount of love that's in my heart and life is the most stark contrast to that time imaginable, I never thought I'd be here. Just seeing my son laugh his arse off because he gets to jump on his new trampoline instead of being scolded for jumping on the couch or bed is one of "those" moments.
Merry Christmas everyone, especially those that have been at rock bottom and look around to see they now have everything
