Happened in a couple of the bowls today; not the first time it’s bothered me. You shouldn’t be able to take a knee and run out 2 minutes.

Easy solution is for the play clock to only reset to :25.

Other than you’d completely nerf offenses or there’d be 25 delays of game, sure

Why is that a problem, you had 3 quarters to make something happen to win the game

Should have been more clear - :25sec clock only in this particular situation. So when a team with the lead possesses the ball under 2:00.

Or maybe have it only apply to kneel-downs, making the offense run actual plays

I like that CFL rules for this - stop the clock after every play in the last 2 min

maybe do something to actually win the game when you have the ball.

This sounds like a rant a 10 year old getting beat in madden online would go on.

I’m saying it as an objective observer - I have no emotional stake in WKU/USM or UNLV/Ohio.

I just don’t like how when the team with the lead has the ball and the trailing team has no timeouts the last 2 whole minutes of the 60 minute clock lose all excitement.

Arena league had the rule that under 2 minutes (may have been 1 minute for them) the clock stops on plays that result in loss of yards

No kneel downs, and you can’t just continue to run up the gut either

I don't like it either. As a fan I feel cheated out of football.

unless you don't lose any yardage, right?

If a team shot their bolt and used/wasted their timeouts earlier in the game, the rules should not automatically bail them out late.

The losing team is not entitled to a chance at a comeback.

Possession of the ball in football is extremely valuable. Gaining possession of the ball while you have the lead late in the game SHOULD be a win.

Rigging the rules to help the losing team at the end is stupid.

What I meant by "you can’t just continue to run up the gut either" is that you need to consider strategy. If you continue to push up the gut and the defense stacks the box; you run a high risk that you are stonewalled or lose yardage. Then the clock would stop similarly to an incompletion.

So, you could just try to run up the gut 3 times and hope to gain 1+ yard each time to run off 2 minutes. But, you are much better using the entire width of the filed to at least give the threat of an outside run, WR screen, slant....

Maybe after that, the refs can start calling penalties on the winning team only so the losing team will have a chance to come back.

You can't make a rule that doesn't apply equally to both teams dumbass.

That's been the case forever.

When the play clock was shorter, it didn't start right away.

That’s lame and gimmicky as hell. Running clocks are a good and normal thing.
