This is good. Don’t like it; do not go into default.

quote:

The Department of Education confirmed the plans to CNBC and the New York Times on Tuesday. Starting the week of Jan. 7, around 1,000 defaulted student loan borrowers will have their wages seized. That number will continue to increase every month, according to the New York Times.

The Education Department can seize up to 15% of a student loan holder’s after-tax income to put toward their debt, according to CNBC.

These are the kinda things you do when the rest of your agenda is polling well. It’s like they’re trying to lose at this point.

And I agree with the idea that payment shouldn’t be optional on these loans. The discourse around them is stupid. But the admin continues to do the dumbest things when it comes to helping win the midterms.

Who cares? The midterms are going to be lost no matter what. It’s happened like clockwork for every party in power for the last 20 years.

Hurricane, I was prob top 3 advocate for Student Loan assistance to come from Republicans. They did nothing. The OP is the expected next step.

You have to pay off your loans unless it has vested interest in majority of people over 55 years of age

Are we going to allow them to be discharged in bankruptcy then?

I would be more worried if he were doing things you agreed with.

There are what, a half-dozen types of loans that you can get that are backed with taxpayer dollars, right?

A federal disaster loan, the education loans, and various mortgage loans that various groups are eligible for (VA loans, etc.).

If you default on any of the mortgage loans, they foreclose on your house. I don't know what they do if you default on the federal disaster loans. They can't take your degree for defaulting on the education loans, so they take money from what you supposedly got the degree for, which was to provide you with marketable skills.

It's not as much of a singled-out situation as you act like it is.

What sense would that make?

If they discharged them in bankruptcy, what would they need to garnish the wages for?
