One of the greatest films of all time and typically difficult to find streaming.

It really is great. Way, way underrated. Came out about a year before the Matrix which has totally overshadowed it. But Dark City is superior.

The opening intro is the biggest problem of the theatrical version because it puts the audience too far ahead of the plot.
The director’s cut is much better.

Started it a few nights ago but haven't finished it yet.
I used to consider this one of my favorite movies ever but it has been a loooong time since I watched it. Definitely doesn't hold up as well as Iwas hoping. Just the way it was shot and the quick cuts were annoying me this go around.
I'ts still a great movie and well worth watching for those that haven't seen it, but just not quite as good as I remember. Or at least not as rewatchable.

Thanks for the head's up. I've looked for this from time to time without luck.
Finally got to watch. It's been so long since I've seen it that the ending was somewhat a surprise.

The Matrix is made of two different movies. Dark City and Blade.

I'd say the Ghost in the shell anime was the biggest thing they ripped off, followed by Dark City.
I can see Blade if you are talking about the outfits.
At any rate, definitely watch the director's cut of Dark City as people have said. Fantastic movie.

Thought it superior, story wise, to The Matrix. Especially after the subsequent movies.
I never saw the directors cut though.

Okay, Ive been off work this week and been doing a lot of binging. I watched this after reading this even though I don't remember you ever mentioning this any of the times we all watched movies at your mom's house
I'll give it this: it was probably good at the time. You were right when you said

The most accurate statement in this thread of others saying it's the best movie ever and the matrix was a rip off. Second most accurate statement was the hooker is pretty hot.
I would have turned it off if not for hoping Jennifer Connely would get naked. The big reveal at the end could be seen a mile away. The visual effects were terrible. At least have some 5th Element humor if your effects are that bad.
Kiefer Sutherland practiced his lines by mimicking a COPD patient with 2-3 word dyspnea. I wanted to yell "T-t-t-today, junior!" anytime he went on a monologue.

That’s what Mulholland Falls is for.

Turned it off after 30 minutes. Effects, scenery, characters were all lame and uninteresting.

Good times. Not sure if you ever saw me mentioned it on here that mom actually passed away a few years ago
Yea I mean I even remember thinking that I used to think this influenced The Matrix or was better than it. I mean maybe it influenced it but, yea, certainly isn’t better than it. Matrix holds up really well.

This is why I haven’t even bothered going back and finishing it. I was like holy crap this guy is comically bad.
