My brother does it and loves it.
He's never been the "works well with others" type.
He likes working solo and traveling all over the country.
Many times, he gets mini vacations between dropping off loads and waiting for a pickup.

Boring.

50 years ago, while waiting on an offshore rig to spud in at High Island south of Galveston, I signed on as a mail truck driver making a 4 stop trip from Monroe, LA to a big terminal out between Dallas and Fort Worth.

It was with a rag-tag outfit of old Macs with some tires virtually slick with the rest on the trailer, re-capped. I ran with enough diesel to get me over to Ft Worth, sleep in a bunk house (trailer), then hook up to a new trailer and drag it home the next night.

The cab had no air conditioning, no radio, or anything to occupy your mind, just one white line after another at 55 MPH. It was torture and drivers lasted only a few months before dragging up. I lasted 3 months.

No.

Closest I can manage is a story from a guy that said he was one. He said there were working girls at one of his truck stops.

The trick was the girl walking around asking if the trucker wanted company was drop dead gorgeous (like a young Sofia Vergera). The guy walking around with her would take the money since they demanded money first.

Then another girl would arrive who looked nothing like the first one (the girl the mark thought he was paying for). By the description I think she resembled Puerto Rican Jonah Hill wearing a miniskirt and pumps.

I did it for 12 years.
You can see some beautiful places and meet some cool people sometimes, but it's mostly boring and aggravating.

Great if you find the right company. Started out in specialty chemical hauling out of St Gabriel/Geismar. Switched over to car hauling for 10 years. Now I am in TV sports. Make less than car hauling but work much less.

Long stretches of boredom broken up by pure chaos. You’ll see some beautiful sunrises, then spend 45 minutes parked cause someone jackknifed it two exits ahead.

You just drive the truck or is helping setup everything part of the job? I think the NASCAR rigs are team drivers and one sleeps during Sunday race day one helps with stuff.

Did it for a few years. Mostly boring as hell with short bursts of stress. If you like being alone and don’t mind your schedule being wrecked, it’s fine. If you need routine or people, you’ll hate it.
