What .35 Whelen Ammo You Shoot

What ammo and grain are you shooting out of your .35 Whelen?
I’m currently shooting 180 grain Barnes out of my CVA Elite Stalker but thinking of going back to a 200 grain bullet. I only switched due to ammo shortage couple years back. I’m just curious what everyone else likes.

I shot 225 Accubonds and 200 Corelokts….swapped to 180gr Barnes TTSX and haven’t looked back for a couple years. They shoot great out of my CVA and they hammer whitetail.

THE North American big game champion handload:
250 gr Speer Grand Slam
64.8 gr Alliant power pro 2000-MR
Federal 210 primer
Remington brass
Shoots really good out of my Remmy 7600 and a buddy’s Encore.

Another vote for Barnes TTSX 180

I've been shooting 200 grain hornady super performance. I would stay away from that.

My scout will put three 225 gr trophy bonded bearclaw federals touching but they have been discontinued, so I’ll be loading accubonds for it when I run out of those. It didn’t like the 180 TSX but I’d have no qualms about shooting them in a pinch.
I have not found a single round out of a 35 whelen that doesn’t put a deer on the ground right there. They can be picky, but if your gun shoots it moment of softball and you’re not lobbing them 200 yards, then roll with it.

200 Accubonds at 2700 fps

I like the 225gr accubond load the best. Reasonably flat shooting and tough enough bullet to not pulverize the deer too badly. Also had good luck with 250gr core locks. Less flat but equally not deer destroying.
The light hornady loads were downright nasty.

My CVA cascade is one of the few rifles I own that will just shoot everything. I prefer the 180 TTSX but that gun will shoot everything inside an 1” @ 100. It’s the cheapest rifle I own… that Bergara heavy barrel will flat spin a bullet.

I started loading for my 35 when Covid caused ammo shortages. I’m shooting a 200gr hammer. I think the power hammer. Power pro varmint powder. Can’t remember how many grains off the top of my head. Shooting about 2850fps, and it will put 3 touching at 100. It knocks them on their arse.

180 TTSX. My Scout is a tack driver with those loads . I found 3 boxes right before they became super scarce .

I havent found any CVA scout / ammo combination in any caliber yet that wont shoot plenty good enough. They are excellent rifles and an excellent value

Why? Thats all I shoot

My gun doesn't like it. Some guns just handle different ammo better than others. Mine is a Remington 700.
