Why Lane Kiffin Chose LSU: Elite Trenches, Not Recruiters

Lane Kiffin took the LSU job for one simple reason: at LSU, he can recruit elite five-star offensive and defensive linemen. He was already outperforming LSU in landing high-end skill players from both high school and the transfer portal. Now he gets the one thing he couldn’t consistently access elsewhere.
Kiffin is already a superstar coach and a pop-culture figure in his own right. He doesn’t need a New Orleans emissary or recruiter like Frank Wilson to open doors—his name, brand, and results do that for him.

LSU is increasing NIL funding dramatically and we have a rockstar head coach now. Those two are what college athletics recruiting is all about now. Frank Wilson can’t coach worth a shite but he can recruit very well. How’s he gonna beat out LSU on the recruiting trail long term when LSU is offering more money to the players? He’ll embarrass us a few times early on due to initial relationships he’s built with some kids but after the first year, he’s going to fall into a mediocre black hole in Oxford.
We got this.
We got this.

I agree for the most part but it would be nice to have someone to recruit that area. I don’t think that way of “recruiting” (having a coach on staff with recruiting connections) is as far gone as people on this board like to say. I mean Sark just hired Juluke’s dumbass for that exact reason.
I’m not saying Frank didn’t need to go. Just that I hope we have someone to help fill that void he will leave when it comes to recruiting. Particularly in LA

There are lots of quality running backs who would love to come to LSU.
Even if Frank were to lock down New Orleans(he won’t) we will still get Elite talent.
Lane knows who will fit in his system.

Lane Kiffin and the “LSU brand“ goes a long way even in New Orleans. I did not feel an individual recruiter. Can consistently beat out those two realities.

I hope you are right. We were told CBK came for one reason and one reason only and that was to win national championships. It turned out he just came for the generational wealth that he had guaranteed.

I think he truly did not fully understand what he was getting into

Winning will do that for him and if it turns out he needs help there is always the Honey Badger who has more love for LSU than Frank ever did.

Let’s be honest here, Brad Davis and Frank were the only coach aside of Raymond that we could bet would have us in conversation with a wide array of blue chip talent year in and year out.
Our new staff is here, and I want to see them recruit at a high level just like we’ve seen we have the capacity to do in the past. I want them to develop the talent. And I want us to win.

I'll believe it when I see it. We haven't had elite trenches in years.

Just win. Everything else will fall into place.

Seems like most people are ok with the decision to let Frank walk but for those who are upset.... Did you not want Kiffin to be head coach?
If you were the CEO of a medium sized corporation that was doing very well and suddenly began getting offers from larger corporations, but those larger corporations are currently bleeding funds, not innovative, and losing business to medium sized and other large sized corporations would you not expect to be given control?
What good does it do if a coach gets to come in and he cannot change anything?
"Ok Coach Kiffin we want you! But you have to keep Baker, and Raymond, and we like Austin Thomas so keep him, and you have to also keep Frank Wilson."
I am sure Kiffin was all aboard keeping Baker and Raymond due to their clear coaching abilities. But everyone else on this staff was failing. No reason to keep a bunch of dead weight when he has a crew he put together in podunk Oxford that pushed to the brink the last 3+ years. Lets be honest we are 1-2 in the last 3 years vs Ole Miss, but for Tiger Stadium coming alive in 2024 we would be 0-3. Trust Kiffin

Exactly. End of story. Time to move on from Frank Wilson.
