Why didn’t Arkansas hire Eric Morris?

I’m an LSU fan but I was raised in Arkansas. I miss growing up when Arkansas fielded competitive teams and the rivalry felt strong. Now it feels like Arkansas as a program just flounders. As mentioned in another thread though, I think it has a lot of potential as a SEC program with die hard fans and good business backing for NIL in northwest AR. Yet after Sam Pittman and now Silverfield, it feels like AR just picks lower tier coaches. Why not try Eric Morris? Why would he pick OSU over Arky despite SEC/NIL advantages AND the fact that like 50% of UofA students are from Texas anyways. The ties are deep.

TL;DR- Why does Arkansas lose out on good coaches to worse positioned programs?

Easier to turn things around at OK st in big12

Morris might have preferred OK st

Arky ceiling is probably 8-4

Maybe they couldn't take seeing another head coach named Morris on the sideline again

Okie state is in the Big 12. Arkansas being in a power 2 conference alone makes them a better school to me. It’s not like the potential isn’t there. Petrino had them competing and raising their profile before his little debacle.

What I was told was Arkansas’ place on the SEC totem pole. Better chance at sustained success at Okie State and still a good program.

15 years ago. Arkansas is done, but thinks they should still compete.

Oklahoma Stare will be happy with 8 or 9 wins

It’s your opinion he’s a better coach.

Time will tell if you’re right

Silverdick has a winning record vs Eric, so your opinion would be wrong right now

Because Silverdong is better. Morris wasn't even the 2nd choice and no one else wanted him as their first choice either so that tells me all I need to know.

Morris was hired earlier than the SEC jobs. All the SEC jobs were waiting in Lane & the dominoes to fall. The rumor was Golesh to the Pigs at first, that may have happened if Lane choose Florida.
I don’t pretend to know who the pigs preferred- but they probably messed up by waiting b/c Morris is probably bringing a qb & rb with him.

Morris spurned Arky for Okie. Okie is a better job, is in a winnable conference and has more money than the pigs. Arky is a coaching graveyard!

Morris was smart to go build his resume, then get a much better SEC gig than piggyland in a few years.

Arkansas is probably a bottom 4 sec job. I dont blame anyone for not taking that gig when you have other power 4 job offers
