Witnesses tried to save man killed in dog attack at Katy park; woman and small child injured, deputies say
A man in his 60s was mauled by three dogs during his morning walk on the Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail, according to HCSO. Witnesses tried to save him.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 62-year-old man was killed, and a mother and little girl were injured by three dogs in Katy on Monday, authorities said.
The man was walking his usual route on the Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail on Porter Road when the dogs mauled him around 10 a.m., according to Sergeant Jason Brown of the Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide division
"According to the family, he typically walked this little loop around the lake every morning. When he failed to return this morning, they came looking for him," Brown said.
Witnesses saw it happening and chased the two pit bull mixes and cane corso away from the victim, but the victim didn't survive.
"They were very aggressive. He's suffered multiple injuries," Brown said.
The dogs then attacked a woman and her 2-year-old son along Persimmon Creek Lane. The woman was bitten by one of the dogs, but the child wasn't seriously harmed. Both were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
After a four-hour search, deputies tracked down all three dogs in the adjacent neighborhood. One was hiding in a drainage pipe and had to be tranquilized, but it wasn't killed as HCSO initially reported on Monday morning.
What happens next
HCSO detectives were interviewing the owners of the dogs to determine how they escaped from their property.
"It would be unusual for a dog that's actually owned by someone to be out roaming around," Brown said.
Animal control has no previous history on record for these dogs, though investigators are researching whether there have been any prior incidents or attacks.
"Obviously, we'll be investigating everything as far as any kind of previous history or whether or not they were negligent and how those dogs escaped," Brown said.
It's too early to determine whether the owners will face criminal charges, he added.
The dogs will be quarantined for 10 days before a hearing with a judge to determine their fate. The family of the deceased will have input in that decision, and there is a legal avenue for the destruction of the animals

Pit bull people will tell you that "it's all about how they are raised," which is silly bullshite, because that's like saying that every human who ever committed a murder or a violent crime had a screwed up terrible childhood, which isn't true.

Rabies quarantine. 10 day hold required to monitor for signs of Rabies after biting a person. Not the only way they can evaluate for Rabies…

Harris County and surrounding counties are inundated with strays and horrible owners who are irresponsible. It’s surprising this doesn’t happen more often. Texas needs to do better.

It's probably more expensive to behead the dog and send it to the only lab in the state that tests for rabies in that manner.

Kill the dogs. Charge the owners with manslaughter.

Don't believe it's gonna matter to the deceased if the dogs have rabies.

Did you not read the article? There was a woman and children that were bitten as well that survived.

All pit bull owners should be put in jail for stupidity.
If you disagree, go fight a pit bull and video it.

This.
Only way this stops is to put the owners in prison for several years and confiscate property for compensation to the victims.
