I don’t remember anybody referring to DiNardo as CGD or Saban as CNS.

Pre-TD

Started with CUM & CLM

ETA: doesn’t work with everyone as in Indiana’s coach, CCC

There weren't message boards when DiNardo was coach.

Acronyms have been more common since texting and abbreviations used for same.

Once cell phones became popular, it was just a matter of time before it dumbed down the populous. Those not well read were doomed from the start.

People were texting on their PrimeCo phones in the late 90’s.

I don’t know, but I can’t stand it. It’s even worse using them for players with a number behind the initials. C’mon man. It takes an extra 5 seconds to say who you’re talking about.

I love the player abbreviations with numbers. Only legends are to be honored on tRant in this manner: PP7, JB9, JD5...

Not long after someone had the idea to type PP7. It snowballed because most people are stupid, lazy, unoriginal lemmings.
