Is it more run first pass second or vice versa? Is it a run and shoot or RPO type of offense? I know it is good, just wondering what the offensive structure is and why it is so hard to stop.

I looked it up a few weeks ago and the base is the Veer developed by Coach Yeoman in 1980. That was modified and Kiffin has modified it himself to what is now described “ veer and shoot”

Something like the Art Briles spread style offense with a pro-style running attack. He also varies from the Briles system in that he doesn’t always use tempo. Just when strategic. He is also big on creating personnel mismatches with motions and formations. Any decent OC does this, but he’s supposedly a savant and film room geek. Figured out who to pick on in each formation. His torching of our shitty DBs year after year supports this.

He doesn't just think outside of the box, he creates a new box.

It’s like a mix of John Madden, Sean Payton and Bill Belichick with a side of Mike Leach.

I've always thought of it as "veer and run" because Kiffin does prefer to run the ball. The big difference is from many positions. WR, of course the QB, RBs, motioned H-Back/TEs... you name it.

However, "veer and run" doesn't work because it is redundant; therefor "veer and shoot" is probably the best description.

It’s the complete opposite of what we suffered through this year.

He has adopted a lot of stuff from the Art Briles system and meshed it with his own style. If I had to describe it I would say it is a power spread with some run and shoot concepts but his passing game is more down field than other similar offenses. Most people tend to think his offenses are pass happy but they really are not. Most of the time they are 50/50 run pass. I think people tend to think that because his offenses create a lot of big plays.

All I know is you can never count him out because he will find a way to score points. If paired with an elite defense, he can force opposing offenses in to playing catch to take them out of their comfort zone. I think Bakers defense was mage for Kiffins offense. Imagine the turnovers baker can create by forcing an offense to play catch up.

Veer and shoot is the term.

Simple. But has a metric frickton of pathways.

Think of it as a chess opening. The opening is scripted.

What makes Lane stand out is his ability to diagnose mismatches.
