Yeah, it's movies board related, but it's more than that.

I've seen so many movies with him, always seemed like a great guy. Not many in Hollywood have lasted this long in the spotlight.

quote:

“The funniest thing is, it’s not enough,” Van Dyke said in an interview with ABC News at his Malibu, California home. “A hundred years is not enough. You want to live more, which I plan to.”

I love that quote! No matter how much time you get it is never enough. It is so true.

Van Dyke left high school during his senior year to join the United States Army Air Forces for pilot training during World War II.[7][8] Denied enlistment several times for being underweight, he was eventually accepted for service as a radio announcer before transferring to the Special Services and entertaining troops in the contiguous United States.[9] He was discharged in 1946.[10] Van Dyke received his high school diploma in 2004.[11]

Dick Van Dyke was 50 when today's 50 year old's were born.
That's nuts.

I really love the guy, he's been the source of joy to a lot of people with his movies. I'm glad he made it to 100, he was having some health issues a few weeks ago. I was afraid it was going to turn out like Betty White.

I saw him in a hotel lobby in Santa Monica circa 2004.. he walked in with a buddy, both laughing and talking- they were dressed in all whites, fresh off a tennis match .. DVD was a very slightly-built guy, and like most celebrities, shorter than you’d think.. but for me, it was like seeing Elvis .. *I* could live to be 100 and ill never forget it .

I've read so many stories about his generosity. One of them was a family that was living in a shelter, and he paid for them to all go to Disneyland, and became their personal tour guide.

Stuff like that transcends politics and other crap.

That is the most lucid, energetic 100 year-old I've ever seen. I don't doubt he'll live several more years.

Fun fact: Marc Breaux, from Carencro, was choreographer for two of Dick Van Dyke's films, "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

are you 7' tall? Google lists him as 6'1"

DVD is actually quite tall for a physical comedian. Chaplin, Keaton, etc were quite short. It's easier to precisely control your movements when you're short

Remember Alec Gifford?
He was the second news anchor WDSU in New Orleans ever had.
He used to tell the story about his promotion. His predecessor left temporarily and was expected to return soon. He went to the network to try his hand at a ridiculous new concept called the sit com.
He was Dick Van Dyke, and needless to say he never came back.

Another fun fact, Dick Van Dyke started his TV career in 1955 at WDSU, Channel 6 in New Orleans.
