There are too many automatic first down penalties in the NFL

Offsides is basically the only penalty that doesn’t give the offense an automatic first down.

There’s little reason that holding or tripping should be an auto first

There are too many penalties in general. Nobody wants to see penalties every other play. I don’t understand why the NFL doesn’t hold back the flags a little more.

The game tonight is barely into the 2nd quarter and already 18 penalties.

It’s my biggest gripe.

That and we all have been conditioned to check for flags before getting excited after a big play.

It shouldn’t be that way.

It really sucks man. That was the main thing I mentioned to my dad this weekend. Brought your godson to his first bills game last weekend

After the pick 6 I celebrated maybe 60% because I was checking for flags. I should have been going apeshit and instead I was literally telling my son “let’s make sure it stands”

One of the most hard to watch seasons in recent memory

I can mostly deal with the number of penalties. By percentages, it’s rare that the call isn’t warranted.

Like many other things, standards have eroded in many aspects in the NFL.

You see left tackles get an early start on every play and while it’s flagged at times, coaches know that it won’t be flagged every time so they continue to tell their guys to do it.

By far, without a doubt, the most fun I have had at a sporting event in my life. My 9 year old having the testicular fortitude to be out there for 9 hours without complaining once is a part of it

The penalties and TV timeouts ruin the building of momentum, especially when an offense is playing with tempo.

I whole-heartedly believe that OPI should result in a loss of down like DPI results in an automatic first down.

Same with other offensive penalties. Holding? 5 yards and loss of down like defensive holding is 5 yards and automatic first down.

Duuuuude, that is freakin awesome.

9 is the perfect age. He’s going to remember that for the rest of his life. I remember more about Alabama football and Major League Baseball in 1999 than I do half the years in my 20s and 30s.

I agree. Move the slider from the current 80 down to like 45. Half as many penalties would be far superior to watch

Brother you don’t know about that “baseball lifestyle”. I blame Burrow. The pinker and gayer shite looks the cooler it is

We have ice cream shorts and everything. In a world of Joe burrows we should all be cheering for the Josh Allen’s to fix this

One of my good friends from college has Bills season tickets right in the corner where you were sitting. Said the pick 6 was amazing in person, but you’re right about waiting to make sure it stands.

Defensive holding shouldn't be an automatic first.

10-second runoff is the worst… there’s no penalties that add time, so why take time away. The 10-second runoff is asinine

Easier to change game outcomes this way. Also why so many rules are so ambiguous.
