They would have a lot of leverage if they went on strike a couple of days before the season starts.

It would also mean a lot of players not getting paid. Unionize. It would be better for the colleges. When a player signs a contract they can't up and leave the next season. Unless it's a one year deal.

Legit question. I’m not sure how all that would work out legally. I would have never thought it would get this far. I figured they would all get some kind of stipend not million dollar contracts. Not sure we’re it’s going to stop. It doesn’t look like anybody is trying to.

All these NIL contracts aren’t pay for play.. so if they unionized and were still being funded by NIL they could in theory strike and still have to be contractually paid.

It would be disastrous for the schools unless the schools would be able to sign them for multi year deals like NFL.

If they unionize there would be a salary cap. It would stop all of this nonsense.

Unionizing would ba good thing, it would bring stability back to the sport. Player “camps” would never want that.

How's that worked out for the NFL players? These guys aren't willing to forgo a season or even a game check by really striking, their careers are too short (especially college players).

If the players did unionize, that would allow for collective bargaining to control how much teams can pay and for the creation of a college football commissioner (Hi Nick!) that would have Goodell-like power to cancel any phony NIL deals.

I feel like a union would make this easier because then you have a CBA

Union/CBA would benefit the colleges and fringe athletes. The highly sought after recruits and their agents would lose in that scenario.

However, it would be the right move overall to stabilize the entire thing moving forward.

It would be pretty tough to form a union when over 50% of your members will be gone in two years. The current cba in the nfl was for 10 years and they negotiated it for a couple of years.

They pretty much can't at public universities, they would need permission from the state in most cases. Private universities are governed by the NLRB, when Biden was in office they said they could, but Trump then fired them Northwestern a private school did attempt to unionize in 2015, the NLRB told them no.

Yea, it would be a tough thing to accomplish. Also, would it be ncaa wide? By conference? I mean, it would definitely put an end to the new crazy “Wild West” it has become in a hurry. The hurdles for this just seem to be too great. Kinda like the likelihood of lsu actually doing a pe deal. Even if they wanted to, the state would never sign off on that at least at this time.

See the Northwestern attempt to understand why it’s not going to happen imminently. And their challenge was legally as well as they could’ve purported

Won't happen. Union employees are all paid the same. EGOs won't let it get that far

Collective Bargaining will bring structure and guardrails to CFB. That is exactly why unionization should be welcomed by fans.
