A group of House Republicans moved to force a vote on extending Obamacare health insurance subsidies that will expire in just three weeks, directly challenging party leaders who appear determined to let them lapse.

At least six Republicans signed a discharge petition filed Wednesday on a bill authored by Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) and Jared Golden (D-Maine) that would extend the expiring tax credits for two years while imposing new eligibility requirements. The subsidies are currently used by more than 20 million Americans.

“It’s a time-sensitive matter, and it’s an existential matter,” Fitzpatrick told reporters after filing the petition. “You try to do things through the normal course. You try to do things through regular order. You know, [when] all those remedies are exhausted, then you’ve got to go this route, unfortunately.”

The move to sidestep Speaker Mike Johnson came as a growing number of mainstream House Republicans publicly warned that their leaders’ apparent plan to allow the tax credits to expire without a replacement in place will cost them their majority in next year’s midterm elections.

The Republicans are taking their time because they have to pick whatever will cost them more votes before they decide.

How about calling for a vote to abolish ObamaCare and replace it with something affordable.

There is a chart that shows the economic growth of the healthcare industry since Obama Care & they are taking in the money ever since.

It’s all be design to destroy small business owners who drive the USA economy.

Why not just dust off the bill that dipshit McCain thumbs downed and put it back up for a vote?

Is there anything more useless than Republicans in Congress?

There is no mandate here. Republicans need to huddle up and try to decide how they can do their work without getting stomped by Jasmine Crockett and the MSM.

Yes, a Democrat voter...

Both are part of the Uniparty.

Too bad we can't just somehow expel everyone in DC and start over.

because it was a terrible bill with almost no research or planning, intended only to remove obama legislation instead of improving healthcare?

Republicans have had plenty of chances to try to come up with something different, but they have absolutely no solutions.

Trump's current economic policy is doing a good job of that already.

They know the GOP will take an absolute arse beating in the midterms. They will lose both the House and the Senate because everyone hates them and will not show up for the election or if they do, they’ll vote Dem. The Dems might just elect AOC president in 2028.

They are smart with this.

They ruined healthcare and will blame Trump and people will vote for the people that ruined it.

I can remember Trump saying "You don't want the fix to be worst than the problem."

Well, how about the same thing here?

Health insurance industry is through the roof for normal folks but we are going to cut off our noses for the pre existing faces.

Yea. Let's just throw more fricking money at it.

Goddamn I hate these frickers.

If I woke up in the morning to find out DC was a smoldering hole in the ground, I wouldn't be the least bit upset (unless Trump and Vance and their families were there)

I work in healthcare. I am very well versed on health insurance, the cost, and the reimbursement. Every fricking day, I have to explain to someone why they are coming out of pocket for their shite. Private insurance does everything it can to get out of paying. People are denied care everyday due to insurance dragging their feet, and putting up tons of hoops to jump thru, to approve a doctor's order. Case in point, almost all insurance requires a person to rent a CPAP until it caps out, and considered "purchased". Across the board, the rental period is 13 months, with a few that go 10 months. Either way, that will put most people into the next calendar year, and we all know what happens on January 1. The big deductible starts all over again. That's a large percentage of money that comes out the patient's pocket, on top of their 20% copay.

Just today, I had to explain to a woman why her doctor's oxygen order was delayed for her 87 year old father. The new thing is, big insurance partners with a 3rd party to "evaluate and disseminate" orders from a physician. Apparently, their bean counters have a plan to reduce claim payments. Meanwhile, name the health insurance company that isn't reporting massive profit.

They need to lapse.

The unaffordable care act is a failure. Let it die so we can begin to heal our healthcare industry.

It has been a while since I have had to buy temporary health insurance, but it used to be cheap. Those kinds of plans are still available, and they are much cheaper then the "comprehensive" ACA plans. The problem is, they must lapse for 1 day a year.

Why not just change the rules and allow anyone who wants to to buy a "temporary plan" but not require it to lapse?

How much of Obamacare is law, and how much is regulation? Regs can be changed. The Demoncrats do it all the time.

Republicans are taking their time bc they have no plan to fix this and will be punished in the mid terms after everyone has to pay the increased premiums.

Trumps two week upcoming alternative had been 15 years and still nothing.
