Many act as if slavery was a uniquely American crime.

“One reason,” says author Wilfred Reilly, “is that a lot of black people survived here.”

He argues that much of what Americans are taught about slavery is just wrong:

Western whites, no less. A trade that had been part of a global economic model for over 400 years.

For instance the word "slave" is from the word "slav" for so many were "slavic" in origin. If our culture understood the history the "white guilt" industry would bankrupt.

Many plantations were owned by free blacks who owned slaves. Several of these are located between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. A historical truth that is ignored.

Who captured the slaves? Sold them ? Enslaved or outright slaughtered in attacks on neighboring tribes ?

I’d bet this is part of the US history curricula in public schools today.

I can read all but one word... what's between 'four hundred' and 'examined by me'?

The slave owner with the most slaves in Louisiana was a black man. There is no doubt, regardless of the skin color, slaves were also treated inhumanely.

Thank God the white man ended it!!

I saw that the other day; some of the commenters who claim that, yes, slavery was bad, but American slavery was the worst prove Stossel's point.

This is the important factor - there were practically no white people capturing black people and putting them in slavery.

A black person caught by rival blacks in Africa should HOPE that a white person shows up to buy him. Otherwise his life would be short and painful.

Slaves sent to America had far better lives than the vast majority of slaves sent to S.A. and the Caribbean Islands.

Descendants of slaves should thank the white race for eliminating slavery instead of just bleating "what took you so long?"

It literally stopped existing in this country in reality and by law fast approaching 200 years ago and since, we elected a bla POTUS not once, but twice, and a bla VP (albeit a drunk retard). Blas have risen to the pinnacle in every aspect of our culture: academically, financially, culturally, and physically.

Let’s just give the whole guilt trip a rest…

I read it as "contrabands". How it changed from its original intent.
