QB: we have 2 cheap rookies for a few years where our total 3.5 mil and a practice squad guy

RB: Alvin’s contract and time with the Saints maybe lasts one more year and id imagine it’s restructured, Devin Neal and Kendre Miller combine for 2.8 mil. I’d love to see us draft a RB to replace Alvin.

WR: Olave likely gets extended but beyond him Vele is looking good and cheap, we traded for Jalynn Polk so I imagine they believe in him. Together Vele and Polk combine for only 2.7 mil. I assume we target a WR early in draft as well.

TE: Only Juwan is on contract at 13.3 mil. I assume we try to keep Stoll or Moreau for cheap and look to draft a TE too. Juwan is getting kind of expensive and has been hit or miss production wise.

OT: Banks and Fuaga seem to be good, we desperately need a legit backup tho.

G: Ruiz is paid too much and we need a LG bad. Radunz needs to be brought back as he’s been fairly solid,

C McCoy’s injuries are an issue, Fortner needs to be a priority to return as he’s been really good.

DE: Granderson and Young combine for 38.5 mil next year which is way too much. We need to draft a DE, I assume Cam retires and maybe restructure Granderson.

DT: Breese Sheppard and Godchaux combine for 17 mil with Broughton at 1 mil. Godchaux been a bust, ideally we find a real run stuffer in draft.

LB: Demario says he wants to play and he’s fairly cheap. Werner probably traded and Stutsman is on rookie deal.

CB: Big question here is what we do w Alontae but otherwise we have cheap options with Riley, KoolAid and Yiadom, They’ve played well but could always see them try to draft someone to replace Alontae,

S: Justin Reid has good deal but Sanker and Howden combine for only 2.5 mil. I’d love to see us draft Caleb Downs if we win a few more games.

All this to say, we have some expensive contracts coming off the books and we have some young players on cheap deals that seem to be hits that will really give us a lot of flexibility.. especially QB and WR. Ideally another good draft and a few FA pickups and this roster can win the South.

Shough’s development and continued growth is an enormous benefit. I’m in the camp that we need to address OL via free agency. Still have many holes to shore up, but man, Jeremiyah Love would be a tempting pick. Saints will be in a great position to draft whoever they please that will step in and contribute day 1.

Going rate for starting caliber DE in the NFL, and I'm thinking $17 mil for Chase may turn out a bargain. Top DE are getting $40-45 million now. Chase is no Maxx Crosby, but he's definitely worth more than 40% of Max Crosby.

This is year one of a three year process. Carr retiring really helped out the Saints big time.

Year one - draft well and begin clearing cap issues. Finish no better than 4-13

Year two - need to find two studs in the draft and continue to allow the cap to be fixed by letting player like Jordan, Davis, and Kamara play out their contracts without extensions. Finish a little better with five or six wins.

Year three - Draft very well again and use cap space to take on a star contract for a lower level pick.

All of this requires Shough to be the guy, not sure yet. Until you have the QB it is best to keep finishing bottom 3rd of the league and look for that game changing QB.

I wouldn't mind seeing Saints cut veterans. I hope they sign FA G and draft one too. Saints still need depth in almost every position. Moore does have something to work with.

The defense is a lot better than most think and if Shough is the guy and we can get him a few more targets….

Not just the retirement but giving back the money. This literally saved us 1-2 years of cap hell itself and can't be valued highly enough.

I think the Saints do 2 year extensions on Davis and Jordan. Davis is still the best player on our Defense and Jordan has proven that he can still contribute. They, plus Hill, have over 30 million in dead cap space regardless next season.

I think you see the Chase Young / Juwan Johnson type extension that allows you to spread that money out over a few more years.

He’s consistently the worst rated OL on the team. Whole line needs to be looked at. Team is going to be terrible until the OL is functional.

Loomis will frick it all up by overspending in free agency thinking the team is in the hunt now next season.

Excellent analysis.

I know that is probably controversial to say this but i think that it is time to move on from the old vets (except Davis). Kamara and Taysom are not worth the money these days. Ruiz need to be cut outright. I am assuming that this is Cam's last year, Hopefully he will give us a deal on a restructure and just eat the dead cap money.

we can't do any of this without more quality draft picks and less Loomis

13th highest paid tight end and currently 7th in yards and 7th in receptions. Played in every game this year.

He doesn't score enough TDs but who on our team does?

We've got some gaping holes elsewhere. I wouldn't use high draft picks on a tight end...

I have a feeling DE will be the first round pick from where they will be selecting
Downs is gonna be an annual Pro Bowl player so maybe you pull the trigger if he's available

Carr should have a brick or something with his name on it lol
He as you said saved us 1 or 2 years in rebuilding. Huge move.

I meant bring him back as a backup not starter

IF we shored up the interior O line in FA to an extent where the guard play wasn’t abhorrent then an earlier pick on a RB that has true workhorse potential would likely benefit Shough’s development quite a bit IMO. It doesn’t have to be THAT premium a pick but even a guy in 2nd or 3rd would be a well spent pick IMO if he ends up with 250 touches.

I don’t think you can plan on Kamara or Kendre really being long term pieces. One is about done and one has had a lot of injuries in a short career and may never bounce back. Given that he’s already 3 years down on rookie deal, I definitely wouldn’t want to pay him soon when we can just draft a guy and reset the clock.
