I’ve got a few days in town for a conference. My wife will be with me. We will not have a car. We’re staying downtown. The Hyatt Manchester.
Any must do’s?
I was told no on a round at Torrey Pines.

Bike around Coronado. And grab a drink at the Del why you’re there.

It’s too bad you’re going to be in conferences during the day! My wife and I spent 3 days there and walked everywhere. We started out walking with suitcases from the airport to Stone Brewing. They have a great restaurant and outdoor dining. We ubered to our hotel from there.
The next day we walked to the seafront and caught the ferry over to Coronado. A 15 minute walk gets you to the little downtown there, the Del Ray hotel, and checked out the beach. Stopped at a Coronado Brewing restaurant for an app before catching the ferry back. We did not tour the USS Midway but its right there at the seafront. Walked to Little Italy that evening and had dinner at some Italian place. Then stopped in at Ballast Point brewing for nightcap draft. You could also eat dinner there.
The next day we took the light rail and transferred to a bus to get to LaJolla. Waked around there saw the sea lions. Not much else to do there except some high end shops and restaurants. That night walked to Gaslamp district and had dinner at a mexican place.
The last day we walked to the zoo which is world class. Better than Audubon and beautiful weather! Had to fly back that evening.

We spend some time just walking near the piers and parks, had lunch at Fish Market.
In the gas lamp district we had dinner at Rustic Root which was good. It is known for having a great roof top area. We had reservations for the roof top but they were changed after they booked a private event for the entire roof top.
There is a small speakeasy bar, Prohibition Lounge, across the street from there that is worth checking out. You enter through a “law office” door.
One night we ate dinner at Bencotto in Little Italy. It was very good. My wife got the pasta they make in a cheese wheel and it was great. You can watch him make it in the wheel.
6th and G is a good breakfast place in East Village if you like whimsical, funky kinda places.
Balboa Park is great place walk around and to check out.

We had an amazing time and already plan to return.
Kansas City BBQ “Too Gun Bar” became our home bar as it was across the street.
Gaslamp area is fun. It’s like a FQ.
The zoo is nice.

Do NOT miss these restaurants:
1 - inside out
2 - Leila
3 - Starlite
Been to SD many many times, those should be at the top of your list.

If you like airplanes, check out Nolita Hall in Little Italy, it's directly on the approach to SAN and planes come in so low you can read the registration numbers. The bar has a glass roof and old school flight boards behind the bar that show the arriving aircraft.
AvGeek Paradise: Nolita Hall in San Diego
Aside from that, we rented a car during our trip and headed up the coast and out to Coronado. We had a 4 month old with us so our activities probably won't align with your interests.

I started this year in a high rise apartment in downtown San Diego.
I highly recommend NYE travel for the single man

It's an absolutely gorgeous beach with amazing views from the cliffs. But if you're not prepared for what's below after hiking down it can certainly be an interesting experience
