Some of you may have heard about this place in Costa Rica and the owner's story , her struggle to find the land to enlarge her original dog sanctuary, to get governmental permission to expand.

As of this video (November 2024), 'Territorio de Zaguates' had grown to over 1800 stray dogs saved from the streets.

Thank God for folks like this and those who care for dogs as their stewards. They were created especially for us.

And here's a guy I've admired for a long time -- Taki of 'Taki's Shelter'. This vid and amazing story is from 2017.

At that point, can you really be sure each dog gets food and is healthy?

Well, bless her heart for trying. The ten I have is enough for me.

I didn't either. It was all peace & love pooches. (I don't imagine a "stray" pitbull would last very long in Costa Rican street or anywhere for that matter.)

The US is the only country dumb enough to breed them.

Yep. 3 shepherds, 2 Frenchies, 1 beagle, 4 mixed breeds.
Only paid for one of them. The rest are all rescues or just showed up.

That’s so cool. But so many dogs.

The perros we would play with on the beach in Jaco seemed happy there too.

This is the only place I’ve been outside of the United States(outside of a cruise).

I thought it was amazing. This was probably 2013.

Pretty damn interesting….i would like to know the logistics of the place.

Do they just treat them like livestock when they worm them and give vaccinations?

Do they spay/neuter all of them?

Do any of them ever get a bath (other than the pond)?

How do they keep fleas and tick infestations down?

I was in South America for a while and I don't know if I remember seeing any purebred dogs. For sure didn't see any that looked like pit bulls. They all looked like mutts. One fricker stole my sandwich in Cordoba after I gave him an ear scratch.

A day in that place would be all the therapy a man needs for the rest of his life.

I imagine he romanticized it a good bit. The first time I stepped in dog shite with both feet at the same time, the dream would be over for me!

You think stray dogs in America are ever walking along the train tracks, and one dog says to the other, "You know, I heard there is a tropical paradise somewhere that has over 1000 strays that are free and happy to play with each other as they live out their lives in the care of people who really treat them well?"

Then the other dog says, "Stop it, Carl. All you ever do is talk about some magical place that doesn't exist." as they go back to chewing on a dead crow they found in the snow.

Went to Honduras this summer. The amount of stray dogs running around was astounding.

I know, CSB.
