The White House news website

quote:

For nearly 250 years, Mary has played a distinct role in our great American story. In 1792, less than a decade after the end of the Revolutionary War, Bishop John Carroll—the first Catholic bishop in the United States and cousin of signer of the Declaration of Independence Charles Carroll—consecrated our young Nation to the mother of Christ. Less than a quarter-century later, Catholics attributed General Andrew Jackson’s stunning victory over the British in the climactic Battle of New Orleans to Mary. Every year, Catholics celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving in New Orleans on January 8 in memory of Mary’s assistance in saving the city.

Thank you Mr. President.

Theotokos!
Our nation has been blessed. May we never forget to worship God and venerate our blessed mother.

This year our blessed Virgin Mother has bestowed upon the city of New Orleans a precocious young quarterback of the future.

Not sure this is a necessary message from the WH!

Too denomination-specific for me, and I'm a Christian!

How would you feel if a similar message came out about the angel Moroni, or Jesus in the New World, or some such Mormon-specific message?

Christian, yes! Denomination-specific (and the jury is still out on whether LDS are Christian) no!

I don't understand the Catholic Church's worship of Mary. She is not sinless and she is not a co-redeemer with Christ. It is silly and misguided.

Wish the Jewish Glazers would buy out Miss Gayle.

She is venerated. She is appealed to as an intercessor with her Son. She certainly has a special place among women.

I think the Pope recently emphasized that she is NOT a co-redeemer.

I think outsiders looking in to Catholicism and Orthodoxy 'can be' and 'are' confused by the emphasis she is given in both denominations. It takes some education to understand that she's not being 'worshipped' but just 'venerated,' but it sure is confusing and can fool a person.

Well if it’s the fullness of truth then yes, the message is necessary.

LDS is not Christian

They have a really effed' up cosmological view and they don't really believe in the trinity as other Christians believe

You're half correct. The Catholic view, which I won't bother detailing here, is that she was in fact sinless.

Mary was assumed into heaven. That's a different feast day - the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - on August 15, 2026.

Correct. They adore her much as you would your own mother.
They pray to her asking for her intercession with her son, much as they do when they pray to other saints.

Hey man, if Jesus can honor his mother and the new Ark of the covenant, maybe I should as well.

Wow! Our non-Catholic Pres. is a better Shepard than our Bishops and Popes.
Thank God for Pres Trump.
