Notre Dame is on Notice: Join a Conference

Ultimately, I think that's all we're looking at... the committee is tired of trying to compare apples and oranges when it comes to Notre Dame.

Exactly.
They had no representation in that committee room.

They don't have to join a conference but they should be scheduling tougher games
If their schedule was flipped and those 2 tough games were at the end of their schedule, they wouldn't even be ranked today. They benefited from losing 2 tough games early and then playing 10 straight creampuffs

What was most important was H2H. Committee has said for a decade H2H is the most important factor in comparing even teams and when it came to final ranking they stuck to it.
Made a decent chunk on Miami to make playoff at +300

You should not be able to play a schedule full of garbage and get a spot if there are viable alternatives.
Posted on 12/7/25 at 11:42 am to MikeyFL
Not really. All they needed to do was switch out one of those games against Miami or A&M for some average p4 team like Michigan St or UCLA and they're in easy. Next year they're doing exactly that. Miami is still there but A&M is out and SMU is in.

Notre dame getting to schedule their way in is a joke
I’m glad they got screwed

This will force Freeman to ditch the pansy schedules that Brian Kelly put together for himself

Notre Dame: We ant to join your Conference.
Any Conference: When can you start?

They get in if it was anyone else in the country other than Bama that they were up against. Bama will always get preferential treatment.

This won’t change ND from being independent. It’s their brand
Their weak schedules are the Brian Kelly gift that keeps on giving

Don’t look now but their schedule is worse (easier) next year.
They better hope they go 11-1

That’s why they have to join a conference. You arent getting those scheduled in today’s reality late in the year.

100% correct
The hubris at that university is mind blowing.
And the answer is not more teams like Herbstiet wants…..8 teams is enough. Notre Dame will have to be in a conference to get the right scheduling.

Good luck to them trying to keep their current P5 opponents on their schedule in the 9 conference game environment. Especially after Texas was rewarded with a boot in the arse.

They were never leaving Bama out and risking their conference championship cash cow. Once it became Miami vs ND, the obvious tie breaker was H2H since they had similar resumes.
I didn't believe they would do it but the committee's decisions make complete sense.
