In the last 60 yrs how many times would you guess LSU has finished with less than 3 losses

12 times.
Les had by far the most such seasons with 5 (Most in LSU history, in fact)
McClendon had 2
Saban had 1
Orgeron had 1
Dinardo Had 1
Archer had 1
Arnsbarger had 1
Looking this up came to mind as I was thinking about expectations for Kiffin. It was a little bit of an eye-opener. LSU been everything except consistently very good. 2001-2011 was, by far the best, most consistent stretch of very good football in the 133 year history.
Just some perspective. Kiffin has quite an opportunity to write himself into the LSU history books.

And people sit on this board acting like LSU is some powerhouse of football.
The expectations at LSU are ridiculously too high

I actually never knew this.
I've said it Arnsbarger since I was a kid and that's what it will always be to me.

Why?
LSU has all of the resources needed to get to 10 wins every year.
I think that LSU should set the goals as:
1. National Championship (or is that too high?)
2. Make the CFP
3. Win the SEC
4. Make the SEC title game
5. Win 10-12 regular season games
6. Make a bowl (additional practices).
7. Finish ranked in the top 15
8. Top 20
If at a minimum LSU doesn’t hit 6/7 the coach is on the hot seat.
If #8 isn’t met, it is a “just cause” for immediate termination is the AD / BOS is so inclined.

The better question is in the last 20 years who has more Nattys than LSU…

That's pretty incredible. It's hard to believe McClendon only had 2 seasons with less than 3 losses:
1962 - 1 loss
1964 - 2 losses
1969 - 1 loss
1972 - 2 losses
That's four such seasons.

He said last 60 years. I don’t know why he stopped at 60 but that would leave out the 62 and 64 seasons.

LSU is a powerhouse of football. That wasn’t true before 2000, but it certainly is true now.

Nah, I think people are totally fine with 3+ loss seasons as long as every few years we're at least competing for a Championship.
That's kinda been LSU's MO for a while. We're an above average program but when we're good, we're really really good.
That was Kelly's downfall, we never saw a glimpse of that next level. We actually degraded.

1. Louisiana is one of the most talent-rich states in the country
2. No in-state competition for recruits
3. Top notch facilities and resources
You’d be hard pressed to find a school in the country with circumstances as good as these. If you’re a great coach looking to win championships, it’s one of the best jobs in the country.

Interesting statistics! Also, keep in mind thst we used to play far fewwer games in a season.

I've been wrong about a bunch of much more important things, so it doesn't bother me.

To the OP, great work. It's cool to look at our sports through different lens and see what's there.
My few thoughts:
- What was the significance of 60 years? Seems arbitrary.
- IMO, CFB has undergone about three major changes: 1) in the early-70s when scholarship limits were imposed, 2) integration [our first black player (Mike Williams) was in '71 and I would argue we were fully integrated over the next ten years], and 3) NIL/portal. Maybe OT as well (which started in the late 90s I think).
- Some resolution is warranted. The OP #s are counting bowl games. I don't think Arnsparger cared much for bowl games (he was 0-3). His thing was winning championships. If you take out bowl losses, he would have 3 seasons. The '04 loss to Iowa was after Saban annouced he was leaving. Again, discount bowls and he has 2. The loss in '18 to Aggie was an offciating joke. It seemed like we won the game 3X only to formally lose it. So Ed was close to 2 as well.
