I'm hearing that residential construction is basically shutting down for a bit in Nola/BR due to the ICE sweeps with workers hiding. Anyone seeing this?

Yes. My house is being framed, along with two other houses on the street. For weeks they were hard at work. On Monday you could only hear crickets. On Wednesday the crew showed up across the street, but its less people. They have worked every day since then.

Maybe for the Tract homes, but where I live in Baldwin county with an hvac co and a home design company, we’ve never been busier with new home construction.

Actual contractors that have legal employees can now big jobs and get them without being undercut from the ones hiring illegals who they pay cheep and don’t have to pay payroll taxes on…..

I'm not talking about tract homes. I'm talking about high-end custom builds in south Louisiana. I recognize things may be different in Alabama since there is no announced ice operation happening there. But there is one happening here and roundups at construction sites are happening daily in New Orleans.

Similar to a natural disaster or “back order”. It’ll be a couple weeks, maybe a month of delays. Adjust and keep moving forward. We all are monitoring the other cities right now to see how it’s playing out. It’s a game of hide and seek for the illegals.

I’m in a new build neighborhood, been hearing Mexican music for weeks as they build houses.

Lot less people and no Mexican music this week. Man I hope I don’t have to hear that crap again.

Sure I’ve heard but also don’t fricking care .. they are also one of the reasons low income housing has become more expensive. We can’t address the problem if we’re afraid to endure the speed bumps on the way

It’s not just residential. I’ve seen emails from multiple contractors telling GCs “yeah, we won’t be on any job sites until all this calms down.”

A few sites I’ve been too in NOLA have been ghost towns. Generally the further you get from there the more people are showing up to work.

If Illegals are doing all of the construction work, what kind of jobs do kids going to college do in the summers? I usually did construction & made enough money to pay off my student loans.

Anyone with half a brain knows not to play music on a job site. Roofers are notorious for walking off a roof because of keeping with the beat of the music. I had 916 roofers at Disney because we were working 8 hour shifts with light towers. To get the project completed. Every crew that signed on signed to waive all claims if any music was heard.

We completed the project on schedule and sued Disney for seven million.worst run construction site, ever involved in.

My guy Pedro was at my house today doing a few things. He usually has a few of his people with him, but he was solo today. Didn’t ask why.
