For a conference championship and a berth in the CFP. Is this an alternate universe?

It's called a mid-major.

The other negative happens when playing P5 teams (negative for both teams): Ole Miss doesn't get credit for the win, but Tulane gets punished for the loss.

Make it make sense. (It's a reversal if the G5 team wins though: All the credit to G5, extreme punishment for P5, as it should be)

It's not worth it for either P5 nor G5 teams to schedule each other unless it's some type of rivalry or instate teams because of that one fact.

If you’re going to allow these very weak conference teams in, the playoffs definitely need to be expanded.

If playoff had same criteria as last year with 4 conference champs getting bye they’d likely be getting a first round bye in playoff too.

ETA at least they fixed that ^^^^

Nevertheless it’s always going to be this way. A G5 team will always have a “gimme” path to the playoff every single year. Same could’ve been said for Boise last year and same will be said for JMU or some other team next year into perpetuity

The fact the Tulane getting blown out by UTSA 48-26 doesn’t keep them out the playoffs is sheer stupidity. Just make separate playoffs and take the best teams for each.

it’s 1 playoff spot to the top G5 team that will almost always have a first round exit. There’s already 7 at large bids available. Relax

You really trying to compare Alabama to Tulane. Tulane has played one ranked team and got beat 45-10. I like Tulane but you are not getting the best 12 teams when they are taking away a spot from a deserving team. Why not have a separate playoff for something Tulane can actually win?

The highest ranked G5 conference champ gets an automatic bid.It won't be many mid-majors on a yearly basis.

Way way way worse than Tulane getting an auto bid would be if Troy pulls out win in Sun Belt

7-5 Duke would control their own destiny to make the playoff tomorrow

Tulane whooped their arse

If they continue to dominate this game they easily jump up pretty close to the top 12. It’s really not much of a stretch letting them in.

I would rather see Vandy or Texas but oh well

That rent a win beat the frick out of the same Wazzu team that nearly beat Ole Miss and LSU's brand new 100 million man Lane Kiffin in Oxford.

Yep. The non power 5 teams need a path but they have to have legit seasons like Boise or Cincinnati did back in the day.

Putting a 10-2 non power five team in is a complete joke.
