Does anyone have any interesting or funny stories about quitting a job?

I’m currently in a situation where I’ll be moving on from my job soon, but it’s definitely nerve wracking. I’d love to hear some of your stories, whether they’re funny, dramatic, or just interesting.

How did it go for you?

Who is going to replace you at the drive-thru window?

Worked at Kohl's for a bit... liked it well enough. Threw trucks, stocked, worked shoes, even cashiered some.

They put me on the schedule for black Friday... I quit Wednesday.

Some of these stories probably aren't going to help with this...

Nothing exciting other than burning all my sick leave before quitting

Not me but…

I had a printing job once and one of the guys paid the garbage man getting our dumpster to take him to his house.

Just paid him, went in and told the boss he quit and off he went.

In college at Northwestern State, I worked one night shift at an Exxon gas station. The store was right off I-49. When I was told that I would be the only person working during the shift moving forward, I quit.

I had a lady that had worked for us for almost a year and came into the office and told me straight up that she had saved enough for her BBL and was quitting.

She actually was a really good worker so I told her that she could have off however long she needed for the procedure and recovery, but she said no. She said the only reason she was working was for that BBL and once she has that she will find someone to pay her bills.

I'm pretty sure I've told this story here before...

I was eating at a Mexican restaurant in Shreveport one day for lunch and the place was packed. Suddenly a loud crash of pots and pans can be heard in the kitchen and everyone stops talking to see what the noise was. Then back in the kitchen you here, "frick YOU! frick YOU CARLOS! I've been busting my arse for you and now you pull this shite!"

About that time he comes out of the kitchen on to the main dining floor and continues to cuss Carlos, the kitchen manager I assume. As he makes his way towards the door he cusses a waitress and finally the owner as he stops at the front door. "frick ALL YOU MOTHERfrickERS! YOU PIECES OF shite! I frickING QUIT!"

The dining room is dead silent in awe of what just happened.

Here is the best part. He walks out the door and as soon as it shuts behind him everyone in the place goes right back to what they were doing in complete unison. Conversations, forks rattling on plates... No one cared.

It was like a movie.

When I was 19 I worked at Macys, the bitchy manager asked me to fold some stuff said she would be back in an hour to check my progress!

I unfolded the rest of the stuff on the rack and threw my name badge on the ground and walked out a few minutes later

All she did was ask me to do my job, I was young and don't regret it. Macys was starting to fall apart then and has continued to go downhill

Last year, I had an employee turn in his two weeks notice in a Christmas card. It read, "I'm leaving in two weeks. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and whatever they say for Kwanza. I'm out,"

He's a good dude and we both had a laugh. He's doing great at his new place.

Way back in the day when McDonald's had the Inspector Gadget toy, I got a job there for one day just to collect all the pieces.

On the way out, the manager asked me what I was doing. I said, "mission accomplished" and showed him the fully built Inspector Gadget toy.

Walked out and never looked back.

Was funny to me.

That's all I got...

In one of my first professional job I was transferred to Houston and hated the office. I got an offer with another company to relocate to Dallas and took it. Put in my 2 week notice and 3 days in the second in command told me to make today my last day. I put down my pen. Left the computer on and walked out.
A block from the office on the service road was a bum begging. I pulled over gave him $20 and all the company garb I had. Jacket hat etc and asked him to wear it. I hope the boss drove by and saw it every day. frick that place.

Student org I was in had an "industry advisor" that reached out to our group about an unpaid internship. Her consulting firm was in a line of work I was trying to get into after college. We met after one of the upcoming meetings and I agreed to start that Friday.

Turned out there was no actual internship. She was getting divorced and was broke. Her ex-husband was awarded the house and she refused to leave. That Friday the sheriff was evicting her. She tried to play it off as I was helping move some items from an event from her home to a storage unit.

Uncovered all this as I was helping load up her vehicle for the first run. She gave me directions to the storage unit. Even tried to start loading up stuff in my truck. I never showed up at the storage facility or answered her calls

That's impressive on her part.

FWIW I think you could've hit it if you stuck it out.

This story isn't like that, but I was at a mom and pop type place eating. We ordered and about 10 mins later the waitress came tell us our order would take awhile because 3 of the 4 people in the kitchen just walked out on them. We left because it was packed but I gave the waitress a $20 for the drinks and told her I didn't need change. Poor girl looked like she was about to have an anxiety attack.
