Grok is wrong. That round hit gravel perfect on the primer and went off.

Without being shot through a barrel, it's basically a firecracker.

So it was chambered, then it popped out when he pulled the slide back?

I don’t own a gun so didn’t know that could even happen…let alone said round going off by hitting the ground. Wild and I’m glad nobody was hurt.

Probably a bad primer with a delayed ignition. I've seen this when shooting old military surplus ammo. You really should wait a few seconds after a misfire before you open the chamber.

That didn’t look like enough force on gravel to go off?

In the range, yes.
In a life or death moment, eject without hesitation. Tap, rack, and roll.

This is why you always wear eye protection at the firing range….

Me either but if it hit perfect, it could happen.

I'd like to know why he ejected it. If he pulled the trigger and it didn't go off, which may be why he's keeping it pointing downrange, then yeah, that was a delayed fire and the reason when that happens I sit there a minute waiting on it to go off.

I wonder if it was a combination of the two?

I have let well over 100 live rounds hit pavement, tile, gravel, dirt, etc. Could have been me.

As youngsters we used to put 22LR rounds in McDonald's straws, primer end facing out. Toss them into the air and most of the time they'd go off when they landed on the concrete drive way. Really does not take much force which is why military ammo usually specs harder primers to prevent slam firing.

We used to do that with shotgun shells. Chew the end until the BB’s fell out. Then tape a marble to the primer, throw it in the air and it would go off when it hit the concrete.

We weren’t smart kids.
