The effort he’s already putting in to build relationships is a breath of fresh air and always really shows just how checked out BK was from a recruiting standpoint

The best story from last night's podcast with Jordy Culotta and Jacques Doucet was Jordy talking about riding his bike past BK's house around 12-12:30 on gameday against Florida and BK was just getting into his car to head to the facility.

There are many stories like this from different sources. Dude got his bag and was checked out after the first year. Basically thinking LSU couldn't afford to fire him.

Great to not have a head coach that grinds on signed players

His whole vibe, his whole aura as the kids says it, just reeks of success and hard work.

Jacques does one called "Jacques Talk" on YouTube. Culotta's out of the game completely and doing sales, but came back to the do this podcast.

I'm a bit more charitable with Kelly's tenure. In the first place, I was blown away by the hire which was completely out of left field and seemed like a massive coup at the time.

There's no question he was successful at ND; his lack of titles was not an outlier in the school's history since 1988. I believed Kelly when he said he wanted a job in which he could compete for NCs. The conventional wisdom had always been that despite its tradition and resources (and media boosters), an independent ND just did not have a consistently realistic path to a title (whether in the polls, the BCS, or CFP).

The disconnect was that Kelly thought he could do at LSU what he did at ND and achieve here what he thought was out of reach here. He did not realize - and later did not adapt to reality - that he himself had to work harder, recruit differently, and manage the program differently. LSU was not going to win just because it is LSU.

Kelly had no P4/5 coaching experience before coming to LSU, and ultimately that proved to be his undoing. He simply had no first-hand experience of what it was like to coach, recruit, and compete at the highest level in CFB.

If anything comes from this for me is my actual interest in listening to the Head Coach speak again.

God that was a brutal 4 years having Kelly around hoping like hell the team was getting something out of whatever he was saying, because I couldn’t stand listening to him.

Kelly was just not an interesting guy at all.

Amazing. I’ve also been reading up on stories like this that are leaking out. Some have reported that practices were so routine and felt like just going thru the motions, and very little changes were made. That’s probably why the playbook always appeared the same, even after Nuss’ ailments and the revelation of the O-line’s weakness.

My theory is that once he beat Saban, he checked out.

WTF? That’s malfeasance. It’s all water under the bridge at this point, but that’s just unbelievable. Except it’s totally believable based on his disengagement.

Well written. Upvote.

It was a toxic mix of he’s an old man mentally, a lengthy contract in which he basically had the “no way they fire me” attitude as well as the SEC requires you to work on a daily basis. He got burnt out. I do hope he coaches at Penn State. They deserve each other.

I honestly don't think BK was checked out (besides playing too much golf). He really wanted to win a NC, but I think he lacks the talent to be a HC that can win the big games consistently to do that.

What? They made it to the Title game once in the BCS and the 4 team CFP once. They cherry picked their schedule. In the 12 team CFP they practically have an engraved invitation every year, particularly with the weak schedule they routinely play.

100% The kids that want to go to ND are not the same kids that want to go to LSU and they don't go to those schools for the same reasons. He did not know how to relate to the LSU/SEC kid or how to make their momma feel good about him as a coach. If you were going to act like BK, you better have the work ethic and respect that Saban draws. BK didn't have that.
