The Leftovers

Analyzed the Dolphins game and a little more than half way through he turns his focus on the Saints.

He REALLY likes Shough, and talked about his ability to manipulate the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield.

Said that Shough should have had a game winning TD that Olave dropped. Said Olave is a good WR2, but he’s not a WR1

He also went into that IHO the organization should trade back and get more picks…..then build around Shough. He said we need to rebuild all three of the interior OL spots…..and that we desperately need weapons on offense.

I wonder if he reads this board

ESPN projects him to finish with 100+ catches and 1100 yards

We all can see what he is, but his agent is not stupid.

So you want to let him walk?

Loomis is not a common sense GM.

Asking for a fan base…………

I don’t think that you can pay him as a WR1. If he pushes for that, you trade him for the package/pick that you can. Let someone else overpay him.

Have him under contract for 1 more year. Make smart FA moves by filing some holes with 2nd & 3rd tier guys. Hope you hit a few draft picks out of the park. If by Oct of next year it looks like you’re a long way away, move him before the deadline. If the team is moving in the right direction; see if you can extend him for a reasonable contract or move him

sounds like some of the stuff the Dolphins were doing on offense running the ball is sort of a copycat of what the Rams did.

The Rams used a lot of 13 personnel when they played the Saints. Schlereth didn't say 13 personnel in this clip but I'm wondering if that's what they were doing.

It’s like a “heavy” 13 personnel, they were using an extra lineman as a TE.
It’s similar to what Mcvay was doing, with McDaniel’s own spin

the Dolphins were coming off a bye so that makes sense.

meanwhile, our idea of smash mouth football is totally different.

I guess O-line depth (mainly) being the root cause.

McCoy being out has really fricked up this O-line again a lot like last year.

that and relying on a guard that you signed to be a backup to Penning now starts at left guard.

Ruiz is on borrowed time at this point.

is Jack Stoll the only true blocking TE we have?

FYI, video is just under 19 minutes long and don’t want to listen to discussions about Miami. The start talking Saints at 10:57, and discuss them through the end

Being thin at WR makes this harder to do, but it's the right move. CO12 is not a #1WR and the Saints can not afford to pay him like one.

Spotrac has Olave's value at 4yr ~$77.2M (~19M/yr)

That seems high for his production but his comps are Jerry Judy, Chris Godwin, Jakobi Meyers and Michael Pittman.

Production wise he's the least of the group but closet to Chris Goodwin.

I've been saying since his first game playing that he reminds me of Steve Young in the pocket. Young was known for his ability to run, but the dude was masterful in the pocket. Shough maneuvers around in there like it's a maze just as Young used to do. It's incredible to watch

Dan Marino was another who was a master in the pocket, but he didn't have the moves that Young and Shough have.

Stats don't show his inconsistency and unreliability. Nobody denies his talent; we just acknowledge his lack of passion, lack of focus and soft play. Olave seems like a good person, but he's not a good player. Talent means nothing without the drive, dedication and toughness needed to maximize it.

Shough has impressed me as a rookie. I think we could be fine building around him for the next year or two knowing how many needs this team has.

even if you draft a "top rated" qb next season, this team is still too depleted to give that person a chance to shine.

Shough is a good stop gap rebuild.
