I've hit that ripe old age where its recommended to get the shingles vaccine.

What are the thoughts by those if you who've faced this decision? I've heard folks say you definitely don't want shingles, it's bad.

Just looking for some feedback from the older crowd. TIA

Anecdotal, but my mom got it(she's 65) and has not felt the same since. Lots of joint pain and inflammation since day she got the vax.

I’ve had the vaccine and as I recall I was a little achy for a day or 2 after the second injection but no other issues. If you had chickenpox as a kid you carry the dormant virus that causes shingles.

My maternal grandfather had shingles in old age and it was extremely painful for him.

I had chicken pocks as a kid and caught shingles a few months ago. I had a very mild case but it was located around my eye. The few times it was a problem, it hurt like hell, but I didn't have the issues others have had with it.

I would go get the vaccine. I basically had to because I have a deficit immune system, but I would tell everyone to go get it. It definitely will be less painful and spread less if you have the vaccine. Even if you do get the vaccine, shingles sucks, so I can imagine the pain from shingles without it.

Weird coincidence? Two other workers in my office had it at the same time. We only have 6 workers in our office. They say it isn't contagious, but I believe it is.

I think i got mine last year at 56 or maybe even 55. It made me sick each time like i got the flu (had chicken pox as a youngster). Seems like it is worth it though and shingles vaccine makers don't get the sweeping immunity from liability like the covid vaccine makers.

The shingles vaccine is a safe vaccine.

Recent studies have shown that it may not prevent the actual rash associated with shingles, but it will prevent the post-herpatic neuralgia, nerve pain, that is associated with the rash.

Thanks, Doctor. I should probably get mine. I had chicken pox as an adult, and that shite was awful.

I'll get it the day available.

Had a buddy get full blown shingles and it looked like he had been shot under the arm with a shotgun. Still having issues six months later.

Not doing that.

As someone who has had shingles on the scalp, face, and eye. Get it the vax.

It's been 15 months and I still have symptoms. The eye involvement could have cost me my vision and now I am on long term steroid drops.

Guy in my office is a 57 year old Marine Corps veteran. I'd imagine he has a fairly good tolerance for pain. He has been battling with it for a couple weeks now and claims it's the most painful thing he has ever dealt with.

I had the SHINGRIX shots about a year ago.

Make sure it is the Shingrix brand.

They say its good for 7 years, perhaps even 10 years.

There are a couple of others that are mRNA based that should be avoided. Do your research.

I had one shot and about 4 weeks later, I had the other shot.

Shoulder was sore for about a couple of days.

Was a little tired the same day but woke feeling good again.

I have heard some folks whom it hit them fairly hard.

I went through it barely without a hitch.

Ask your doctor about starting it for the nerve pain. It will help. Starts at 10mg a day.
