I’ve seen this pop up twice today but not read any specific details. Is Tennessee considering firing him over the Vandy loss or is he the one looking for a change?

He might be looking to get out of the SEC meat grinder and on to that easy penn state big10 schedule

His offense in that shallow pool with many slow arse teams would wreck shop.

I don’t think he would be fired. If anything it would be Heupel leaving with both parties agreeing to part ways. It could also be Heupel just leaving on his own. I don’t see a firing by Tennessee. This coaching cycle of available candidates is one of the worst I can remember in a while. They’d have to pay Heupel a +$35 million buyout and look for a coach in a bad market.

UT wouldn’t fire him. They just gave him a raise and aren’t going to find anybody better.

UT probably won’t cry over him leaving, but this year, at this point in the season, would be hard for them to find someone better.

Next year they’ll probably be in the position LSU was this year. But who knows what coach is the upgrade then.

I doubt UT fires him. He was just in the playoffs last year and turned around a program that was a dumpster fire when he got there. And if they were considering a change, they waited too long and now the top candidates this cycle are all signed elsewhere.

He was waiting for OU and that hot seat cooled.

there's some smoke on Kalani Sitake to Penn St too. they need a home run, cant fire James Franklin just to bring in someone unproven (although Chesney would do well). utk fanbase is getting riled up at heupel

Sitake is obviously a very good coach but Sitake in central PA would be more strange than Brian Kelly faking his southern accent

My guess is Heupel is waiting for the Oklahoma job to open up.

What would be funny is that Heupel goes to Penn State and Tenn hires Golesh from auburn lol

I think there is bad blood with them isnt there? Venables has done a good job there. I mean they are in the playoffs with a terrible offense so i would assume that he is there for quite a few more years

He has taken UT as far as they can go and he knows that. Probably enticing to leave to the B10 power and see if he can’t get a NC there.

He would have more sustained success there then Tenn.
