Seems like a solid airport with a good bar or restaurant might be a fun place to hang out, people watch, and check out some planes.

Don't know about that but back in the 80's-90's Nell's Airport Lounge was one of the best bars in Monroe.

ETA: Second floor of the main "terminal"

9/11

You used to walk right up to the gate without a ticket to see family off, or welcome someone home.

I have fond memories of waiting for dad to walk out of the jet bridge when he would be coming back from a work trip. I was probably under 5 years old.

Thats all I got.

If you went to NLU then you would know about hanging out at the airport in Monroe and drinking long island ice teas

Looks like you’re right. I flew only three times (two trips) prior to 9/11, and I don’t remember how security was at all.

Chicago O’Hare is insane. Delays and cancellations all day. I met and talked with Walter Peyton for over a hour.

Had met Lou Pinella several times in Tampa. Got trapped in a weather delay in Chicago. Two hours, I walk….walked past a bar “Ray! Get your butt in here! Drinks on me!”

We sat and talked for hours.I thought he didn’t remember my introducing myself in Tampa.

You still had security checks, but a simple metal detector mainly looking for guns. You didn’t need a ticket to get access into the terminal by the gates. It’s how this worked if you see old movies or videos of people waiting for someone as the passengers get off the plane.

Drinking regularly in an airport would be like drinking regularly in a strip club price wise.

That as well as paying a lot for parking to just go have drinks seems like a nope.

No but it was cool to go to the gates and waive bye to family members as they boarded the plane and then watch the plane take off from inside the terminal.
