Putin insists Ukraine has to surrender territory for any deal to be possible

Then what the hell is the point of all this "peace talks" nonsense? If one side doesn't recognize the other side that is negotiating as legitimate, then there is little chance that side will respect anything that is agreed upon.
This all seems built to fail.

Russia simply invaded a sovereign nation and
seized territory it doesn’t want to give back. Putin’s claim of anything being illegitimate is laughably absurd.

Without any defensive treaty, Ukraine will eventually be overtaken. Any peace agreement will end up with a rearmed Russian military attacking in a few years to finish the deal. This is the reason Sweden and Finland joined nato.

Sovereign is defined by the winner.

Nor did he pretend to be. Right or wrong, Trump’s goal from the outset was to stop the bloodshed asap. People like you continue with this silly fantasy about a Ukrainian victory, which is/was never going to happen. Sometimes bad guys win, and there’s nothing good guys can do about it.

Nothing here should shock anyone. Putin didn’t pivot. He’s been saying since 2022 that any deal requires Ukraine to withdraw from contested territory and accept Russia’s terms, and he’s repeated that in every round of public remarks since. Today’s quotes are the exact same position he's always had which is why the victory laps the other day were the only surprising part of the entire conversation.

Putin not a good guy, but he is not wrong. He has all the leverage, Nato and Ukraine has none. Putin will keep fighting until he gets what he wants. You can say Putin is a bad guy but he has been honest on this Ukraine deal and will take to end. I think Trump agrees with him but you have neocons and globalist in both parties to invested in this war to let Ukraine walk away.. Feel sad for Ukrainians, they will not safed by Nato, we are sending Americans there to fight the Russian's that is the only chance they have...

Russia will never agree to a treaty short of fully controlling Ukraine. Historically the Russians dont fill safe until they control all the way to Moldova/Romania.

If Russias terms is complete withdrawal and no defensive alliance they their best bet is to keep fighting now then have to fight again in 5-10 years.
And Russia will not use nukes unless they are going to be overrun. Using nukes means mutual destruction. It’s a Hail Mary play…..
