What are the top 3 positions the Saints need to address before next season?
Choices are:
K
OG
CB1
WR
RB
EDGE
DT

I think the defense just needs more playmakers -- not necessarily at any given position.

Just someone that the offense has to account for, which makes life a little easier for the other players. Guys like Kool-Aid, Adebo, P-Rob, etc can look like serviceable players when you have a Lattimore to damn near remove one half of the field by himself.

Linebackers look way better in coverage when you have a DE that commands a chip from a TE or a block from a RB that slows down that checkdown route..

etc..

MLB
CB1

Not necessarily in that order.

Absolute immediate upgrades needed

RG - Our QBs have no time to throw and we can’t open holes for our running game. Ruiz is a turnstile and while we need other players at other positions, it all starts up front and Ruiz is the worst of a bad bunch.

WR1 - Olave has been better the last few weeks, but we need a true #1 WR. Although without a better OL, it wouldn’t matter if Randy Moss and Jerry Rice were on the team.

Pass Rusher - We need a pass rusher in the worst way. Guys like Matt Stafford and Kirk Cousins have all day to throw against us. We don’t even have a threat of a pass rush.

CB - Kool-aid is likely a CB2 at best. And Taylor seems more like a safety than a CB. We need to find a true #1 CB. Although a pass rusher would make our CBs better which is why I put pass rusher above CB.

K - Definitely a need, but it’s a position that’s easier to find and replace.

NT/DT - I’m not sure what we need here or what kind of guy Staley would be looking for in this position, but we need to better against the run. Bresee is good at pass rushing, but isn’t the best run defender. Godcheaux is old. Upgrade needed.

TE - Needs an upgrade. Johnson has the talent, but is so damn inconsistent.

Options need to be explored

LG/RT - Fuaga has been bad at RT this year. I think he’d be elite at LG and would love to move him there and find a new RT. Banks and Fuaga on the left side would be elite! Regardless, LG needs to be upgraded.

C - McCoy is good, but he’s spent the last two years on IR. Ruiz has been okay when moved to center, but I’m ready for him to be gone. I wouldn’t mind taking Jake Slaughter or Conner Lew in the draft this year.

LBer - Davis is still really good, but he can’t have much more left in the tank. I really want Reese with our first pick to fix our pass rush and potentially be a Demario replacement.

RB - The group of Miller, Neal, Hill and Kamara isn’t the worst group in the world. But upgrades could be made. Although without a better OL, it doesn’t matter.

I’m leaving QB out, because it’s hard to judge what Shough is with how terrible this team is overall. I don’t think he will be elite, but I think he can be a solid QB option until you find “the guy”. And I don’t know if there is a better option in the draft or free agency this year.

I’d be fine with them spending money on OL and using the draft for defense/WR. Our OL evaluations in the draft have been dogshit for the most part. Let’s sign the 10-15th best guard in free agency.

We were drafting in the late teens and low 20s for a while. I think the “hit” ratio is up to par at that point.

The good - McCoy, Banks, Fuaga, Ramczyk & Armstead
The bad - Peat & Saldiveri
The ugly - Penning, Ruiz & Leonard

Not disagreeing that we should look for a FA guard though. I think that’s a good idea.

How does qb not make your list
Ah saw the last line lol
Two guards FA and draft
Pass rusher draft as almost impossible to find in FA that’s not expensive
CB draft Safety maybe in FA
QB anywhere in draft CKM finds him

Drafting a guy that said "I was born to play Center" but drafting him inches first round to play Guard was dumb. Extending him was criminal. I'd like to add an elite edge guy with our first pick if there is one available or a shutdown CB....on offense we need a Big true #1 WR

WR
Guard
Pass Rusher
RB
CB

In that order, with the first four being absolutely paramount. They’ll likely need to sign a Guard AND draft 1-2.

I’m shocked people don’t have CB at the top of the list
