Who wins?
I think saints still dominate
35-10 Saints

Bum Phillips used to chew tobacco and spit on the Superdome turf.

Some on the 1981 Saints are dead...so it wouldn't be a fair matchup.

This is an interesting question. Athletes are bigger, faster and stronger now, but professional talent is almost always far superior.
I wonder what year you’d have to go back to for a college team to really have an advantage.

I know yall know NFL teams around this time were amateur operations compared to what we have today… like specifically the Saints then were ran from an old JPRD building.
and with the population of our country increasing it just increases the talent pool for current teams
Pretty much everything favors LSU in this matchup except that the Saints were a little older

The 1985 Bears offensive line averaged 265 lbs. They also would be 40 years behind the times in scheme and technique development.
The 1981 Saints would not beat 2019 LSU.

This.
These dudes are built different now.
Les Miles was a lineman and weighed like 250.
They had a 300+ lb TE from the Steelers rag dolling people this week.
2019 LSU would wreck the 1981 Saints.

Not this again
I know. “How many pros were on the 81 Saints? All of them.”
But that being said, basically every single starter on that 2019 team got drafted. And Chase went the next year.

Archie Manning, George Rogers (rookie year, led NFL in rushing)
Wes Chandler (elite receiver)
Rickey Jackson (rookie season – Hall of Famer)
Frank Warren, Jim Kovach, etc.
That’s multiple future Pro Bowlers and a Hall of Fame linebacker.
A roster full of 22-year-olds cannot keep up with full-grown, violent pros.

1981 Saints OL:
LT: J.T. Taylor, 6’4” 265 lbs.
LG: Fred Sturt, 6’5, 255 lbs.
C: John Hill, 6’2” 249 lbs.
RG: Sam Adams, 6’3” 256 lbs.
RT: Stan Brock 6’6” 295 lbs.
A team with an offensive line that averages 264 lbs. and uses schemes and techniques from 1981 would not beat a great college team from the modern era.
