Reagan’s agenda: It’s unbeatable.

1. Cut taxes
2. Reduce Government
3. Deregulate
4. Control inflation. Period. Works by having a strong working relationship with the Fed.
Foreign Policy: Stop the spread of communism - however you can - publicly and privately.
Domestic policy: ALWAYS show the American people that you will work with the opposite party on everything (if they choose to do nothing, people see this).
If you don’t waiver, it is simply unbeatable and unstoppable.

Good post. I'm mostly a fan of Reagan except on a few things (though we have the benefit of hindsight)

I wouldn't give carte blanche to this sort of thing knowing what we know now: no more Vietnams please. But we keep doing it. This is an area where I feel Trump has improved our view on. Reagan was brilliant in making the Soviets asses quit though.

I like part 1. But part 2, the Fed ... are they friendly now to a conservative fiscal agenda? I don't think so.

His border and immigration policies ruined the country

I see you left off his war on drugs policy which is his longest lasting agenda item.

Absolutely loved Reagan but his willingness to trust Dems on immigration laid the basis for where we find ourselves today…

Sounded like a great idea at the time but in practice did not work out so well. What a waste of effort and money.

Never trust democrats
That would be like trusting Pol Pot.

What do you think Reagan would’ve done with all these commie mayors being elected?
Posted on 11/22/25 at 7:28 am to Bham4Tide
I'm very proud of Reagan. However, he signed off on some sort of Caribbean development initiative with tax breaks and a bunch of drug manufacturing plants based in the NE moved their manufacturibg operations to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. This was the first step in my awareness of third world, cheap labor profiteering.
I know someone will say but that's US territory. It is and they're populated with impoverished people.

He also gave amnesty to about 3 million illegals. That worked out well

One is always going to have clearer perspective looking back in the rearview mirror, especially 40 years ago.
In my lifetime, for what was needed during that era, and with what was known to be at that time, Reagan remains the greatest president.

Those were Dem initiatives.

Spread neoliberalism by any means possible. That’s worked out great for the country.

2. Reduce Government
The size and scope of the Feral Government was expanded, NOT reduced during Reagan’s two terms as President.
The Myth of Reagan the Conservative….
…
Reagan eliminated not a single government program, much less an agency. Instead, he strengthened those agencies—like the Departments of Energy and Education—that he originally pledged to abolish, and he even strengthened the profoundly intrusive Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Reagan created the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. As Murray Rothbard writes, “The Gipper deregulated nothing, abolished nothing.” He concludes: “Overall, the quantity and degree of government regulation of the economy was greatly increased and intensified during the Reagan years.”
Indeed it was. The federal government grew exponentially under Reagan’s watch. As recently as 2014, Mother Jones, a leftist journal, commended Reagan for advancing the cause of Big Government.
Alex Park remarks: “If you judge him [Reagan] by the uncompromising standards of today’s GOP, Reagan was a disaster.” During Reagan’s eight year tenure, the national debt almost tripled from $907 billion to $2.6 trillion. The federal workforce increased to 324,000 people (of whom only 26% consisted of military personnel). In fact, Park observes that as of 2012, nearly a quarter of a century after Reagan left office, the federal government has nearly a million fewer people working within it. In contrast, under the “liberal” Democrat, Bill Clinton, “the federal workforce was at its smallest size in decades.”
Implicitly, even Reagan’s biggest devotees admit that he presided over a substantial enlargement of the federal government, for they continually declare, against “liberal” Democrats who suggest otherwise, that government revenues increased courtesy of Reagan’s income tax cuts. Thanks to Reagan’s economic policy, then, the federal government now had significantly more of citizens’ monies to do with them as it pleased.
In 1986, Reagan granted amnesty to some three million or so illegal immigrants that were then residing within the United States, a move that only exacerbated this country’s illegal immigration crisis.
Regarding gun-control, Reagan’s actions too frequently conflicted with his pro-Second Amendment rhetoric. He promoted and signed into law the “Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986,” legislation that the NRA favored. Yet Reagan signed it after a Democratic congressman from New Jersey, William J. Hughes, slipped in a provision that criminalized ownership of fully automatic firearms that weren’t already purchased before the date that the Act became law.
After Reagan left office, he came out in support of “the Brady Bill,” even going so far as to say in a New York Times editorial that had this piece of federal legislation existed in 1981, the assassination attempt on his own life may have never occurred! Reagan as well cited gun death statistics that, he contended, could be reduced courtesy of such federal legislation as the Brady Bill.
In 1994, Reagan, along with Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, endorsed a federal ban on “assault rifles.”
Of course, no one should’ve been surprised by any of this. As governor of California, Reagan—an FDR Democrat for over three decades who never abandoned either his admiration for FDR or the New Deal—foreshadowed how he would govern as president.

Reagan is the reason we’re in the mess we are in. His second term was terrible and he lost California for Republicans forever with his immigration bill.

Reagans Real Agenda:
- Destroy the American Manufacturing sector
- Allow the biggest companies to begin shipping jobs overseas
- Give Amnesty to illegal aliens, signaling that America doesn't care about the border
- Explode the national debt
- Restrict the 2nd Amendment (As governor)
- Cut taxes for the rich but not for the middle class
- Appoint moderates like Sandra Day O'Conner and Kennedy to SCOTUS
- Destroy family farms, have corporations buy them up
- Do absolutely nothing in regards to the Drug War
- Allow radical Islam to blow up our Beirut embassy, then allow them free reign in the Middle East
- Continue to allow Democrats to funnel money to subverting America via USAID
- Strengthened the powers of the UN and International Treaties
- Make MLK a national holiday, furthering the divide between the races
- Expanded Affirmative Action and DEI in the federal government
- Raise a gay son who hates you

He let Bush run wild in Latin America. CIA helped funnel cocaine into this country. Iran/contra should have ended his political career. Was pretty much check out his last 2 years. Hindsight lets us know Reagan was not the super hero conservatives made him out to be for 30yrs
