No. The question I have is when he decided to retire on our dime. Was is when Jayden left? Or was that his attitude from the start?

Probably, he came to LSU because he thought it would be easy to win a Natty.

Yes. Brian Kelly is a good coach..he really is! But he is a CEO coach, NOT a player's coach, NOT a hands on coach. The reason he succeeded at Notre Dame was the CEO coach thing ONLY works when your subordinate coaches are competent. The OC he brought with him from ND was competent and is now back at ND. Freeman the DC at ND when Kelly was there was competent. Haus the DC at LSU he hired was NOT competent and the players didn't like him. Sloan should NEVER EVER have been promoted to OC because he is incompetent. Brad Davis is a JOKE of an OL coach. The ONLY way the CEO approach works is if your assistant coaches are good. That does fall on Kelly but I think it it nonsense to believe Kelly wasn't ATTEMPTING to win and TRYING to make the right moves. He just failed with his approach at LSU due to bad asst coaching hires.

He was in his 60s and signed a 10 year $100 million guaranteed contract.

I wouldn’t try hard either

I believe he put forth a decent effort (minus all the golfing), but I am 100% sure his best effort would have never won a NC.

He could've thought he was doing what it took. But the results spoke for themselves.

He always told us he needed to coach better, but he never did.

When Woodward started being involved in the decisions and inserting himself into the football program forcing choices down his throat.

He won’t admit it, but he was coasting into retirement and collecting a big payday on the way.

Yes. I do believe that.

He thought what he did at ND would be adequate here. It was not.

He had an AD at ND that handled lots of things for him. And a soft schedule at ND. No transfer portal bullshite. On and on.

The SEC is harder in many small and subtle ways. That all adds up.

Someone of that mediocre ability to lead men was never out for the glory. He and Armstrong found an ego driven idiot; ie.... The Big Game Hunter in Woodward, in where both would turn mediocre football into a $10 million dollar legacy.

My contetion is that beating Saban was the worst thing that happened to BK at LSU. It validated everything he was doing because he beat the best. In his mind, he probably thought he could coast and get away with it because his "system" was superior.

I think of it the same way I think of employees at work. There are people who are delusional and think they are doing all they can. There are people who are lazy and truly know they are not doing what they can.

I think BK was delusional and arrogant and he thought he was doing a great job.

And if you think about it, that is worse. It's always easier to deal with people who just admit they suck. You know what you're going to get with them.

Of course…

Coaches at that level are fiercely competitive and I don’t think they can ever turn that off. Besides, I don’t think he would risk losing a $10 million per year job.
