What would it take to get into the top 5 of this draft? Tear it down to the studs

I think that should be our goal. Problem is, no one is trading before the lottery.

Dumars has shown no patience so I could see him making a wild gamble like moving Zion or Trey to a team like Charlotte hoping they get a top 5 pick.

I think the time has come to completely build around Queen and Fears and a potential stud in this year's draft.

Resets the timeline. Move Zion, Trey, Herb, Jose, Poole, and Murray (although you probably have to pay to get off them).

Keep Karlo, Peavy, Queen, Fears. DGAF about the rest. Maybe keep Trey if you can't get value.

Saw this yesterday regarding Trey’s value.

if he’s worth 3 firsts you have to trade him. This team is going nowhere any time soon. Trade Murphy, stretch Poole, hope for the best with fat boy.

Obviously...it's a piece of cake...

1. Trade Herb to Warriors for Kuminga and their 1st pick. (No need to make it "protected" since Warriors are going for the cheese this year)

2. Then...a week after the trade, Curry blows out his Achilles and is out at least the next 2 years so...he just goes ahead and announces his retirement. Warriors immediately go into total "tear it down & start over" mode...and trade EVERYBODY for future picks. Butler/Green/Herb/Podz...EVERYBODY !!! So...they finish somewhere in the bottom 10 with that bunch of scrubs they have left...and our beloved Pelicans end up...with a bit of "drawing luck"...with Kuminga AND a top 5 pick.

3. THAT'S my plan...and I'm stickin' to it !!!

Added edit*...btw...in my scenario...Herb is eventually SOMEHOW...traded to the Nuggets...and EVERYBODY goes home happy !!!

We have nothing to offer for such a valued pick. You’d have to give up an elite multi time all star to maybe get that pick.

The only way you can possibly get into top 5 is to try to get our pick back from Atlanta. That’s it

I can see a team like the Pistons making that move to keep up in the East. If Bane went for 4 firsts and players, then Trey should net something similar.

I have to assume the only team parting with 3 first round picks for Trey Murphy is a team pretty locked in on a title run.

I don’t want 3 first round picks from the nuggets/spurs/rockets etc.

I think you have to hope Fears and Queen quickly become a duo giving you a combined +40 points, +15 rbs, +12 assists a game and keep Trey as the catch and shoot third option in support of those two.

And pray Zion, Murray, Herb get you enough draft capital back to cobble a team around those 3.

IMO, nothing you can do this year but hope. Hope Zion plays well and rehabs his trade value. Hope that Murray comes back and doesn't look like a shell. Hope someone is attracted to the expiring contract of Poole.

What about the Thunder? They have the Clippers 1st. They have too many draft picks as is, they may be looking to cash in on some of those picks for a stud. Say what you will about TM3, he would go freaking ballistic with a PG like Shai to get him wide open catch and shoot 3s. We haven’t been able to maximize TM3, he’s a great player for the right team.

Not really interested in moving Trey for three firsts unless they're highly valuable. Even like three "meh" lotto picks doesn't really excite me

Agreed. However, that’s also not going to happen.

The Clippers are going to be terrible this year and the Thunder still have their 1st from the Paul George trade lol. That trade genuinely might be worse than the Luka deal, OKC got the franchise player who won them a championship and is still being fed 1sts. Wild.

the question should be for a losing franchise like this is do you see treys value improving from what it is currently. If you think it will, keep him. If you’re unsure it will improve and this is his peak value, trade him.

The only issue with trading Trey is if you trade Trey, you basically have to trade Z too. Losing Trey’s skill set would be an absolute kill shot for this team, we would have zero shooting.

The question for us is also timelines.

We have Trey for 3 more years after this. And the. He is probably gone as a 28 year UFA. If we somehow fully turn this around maybe he sticks around, but most people don’t want to be career pelicans.

Do you think we have a timeline in the next three years to actually need Trey to win games for us? If not, might as well move him.
