I wasn’t around in the 70’s to see it, but the fact that they have 2 albums, released in the same year, that land in the top 4 best selling albums of all time makes them the most undeniable band of all time to me.
Not the most “groundbreaking” or “influential”, or any other non metric based tag. But the numbers never lie.

The 64x platinum figure between only 2 albums is incomprehensible, and the vast majority of it accomplished well before the streaming era. When acquiring music was intentional vs casual.

Enjoy.

To sell that many albums the music has to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Album sales...or big sales numbers in any business do not = quality. Just ask Ray Kroc. But hey, it's good to be rich.

The studio version of One of These Nights is the audio equivalent of ice cold bamboo shoots through your finger nails.

I’d go with “worst produced” band of all time. They are fun enough and even sometimes great to listen to live but their studio recordings are awful.

I see the discrepancy. Best selling albums of all time in the US.

#5 & #6 all time worldwide. Sorry about that friend!

I have a more favorable view of them overall but I can partially agree with this. There are multiple records where different tracks will sound like 2 totally different bands.

Wonder if their sessions were super segmented and spaced out at different studios or simply poor engineering.

Actually, I believe just the opposite. To sell like that you need to reach the masses and give them something they can identify with.

The Eagles probably did that better than any other rock/pop act in history. From their early country influenced harmonies to the later guitar edged tracks that absolutely melted with Felder and Walsh.

The common listener found something as did musicians who could appreciate the well thought out and melodic solos.

Nah, The Eagles offered something to almost every American.
