People judging Lane.

Some of you people complaining about Lane have jumped the shark. So, are we supposed to only hire coaches who are not coaching playoff teams? Is that the new standard? Do not hire playoff coaches because then they are quitting on their teams. New law: LSU will only will hire coaches who are not in the playoffs, because if not they have character issues for quitting on their teams. Or, are we supposed to wait for a playoff coach to get knocked out of the playoffs to hire them? Awesome! So, then we have no HC for early signing day, no HC for the transfer portal, no HC to help keep our roster together from going into the portal, and no HC to hire staff until...what January, if they make it past the first round? Top notch logic people.

Brian Kelly led Notre Dame to the playoffs and a National Championship game......how did he work out for LSU? Nick Saban didnt win shite at Michigan State....how did he do at LSU? Its not all about the shiney head coach that makes the playoffs....

Lane is in a tough spot. I know he doesn’t want to lie and say he’s not leaving Ole Miss. he wants his word to mean something but he’s struggling to answer the question

Lane is an excellent coach based simply on the facts that A) his teams are always prepared B) he scouts and uses data to come up with offensive and defensive complimentary plan and C) is superb in adjustments, and not just half time.
That puts him way above most coaches. Very few are consistent on all 3.
Is he a good fit for LSU? dunno. I can't stand him.

I would counter by saying Lane has a 20 year track record as a head coach where he's really never accomplished anything of significance and the first year he does - that's the norm we can expect that from now on and not the other 20 years?
So you are saying everybody on here that does not like Lane wants a coach that's never made the playoffs? I mean the Arizona St. coach has made the playoffs and some here want him? I think you are going off one post where a couple of guys agree with that premise and acting like that's everybody here.
For me I just don't like Kiffin....whether he quits on Ole Miss are I've personally seen enough of his act to have my own opinion on him and it's not favorable.

Saban left MSU when they were ranked 9th and would have been in the mix of the playoffs if it was 12 teams back then. To be fair, I think Saban would have left if they were in the playoffs in that moment. But saying he didn’t win shite is being misinformed bc he was moving that program upwards.

Judge his history and performance record. That’s the ONLY thing we can actually judge.
The eye test is not a good matrix. Teams and players have good and bad days and the opponent and where they are can skew that.

I think Lane is a viable candidate, but feel he's overrated in the minds of some.
If he was hired at LSU, I would support him. Wouldnt be a bad hire.

The maniacal part of this to me is Lane has little to do with any of this. He has done nothing but win to cause this. He did not put himself out there for other jobs. OM put a proverbial gun to his head with the extension and didnt get the answer they expected and is now going apeshit.
All Lane has done so far is to leave all options open. When opportunity knocks be prepared to answer the door…

You are blowing your credibility a mile high insinuating Nick didn't do shite at STATE. He turned that program around. Did the same at LSU.
Now you say..."Oh, well golly gee, he never won the big game there." That's where you blow yourself up. There are a lot of excellent coaches strangled by resources that can't win the big game.
