Youth left handed rifle

My daughter wants to get into hunting, and I’ve heard a .243 is a solid starter rifle. She’s left-handed, though—do I really need to look for a left-handed gun, or is it not that big of a deal?

For bolt action definitely go left handed. I have found savage is the best option for left handed youth shooters. Nothing fancy but very accurate and affordable.

Savage Axis lefty combo is cheap and all you'll need to start.
Ruger American is another great low end rifle that's available in left hand.
I'm a lefty and just always operated a RH bolt action by reaching over.
The only time I have problems with RH firearms is when they're semi-auto. RH semi auto shot guns are the worst since they eject shells right into the crease of my elbow.

I've got 2 boys, a lefty and a righty. They each have their own deer rifles in the appropriate handedness. While they will each shoot the others for fun, they are clearly more comfortable shooting the "correct" one, especially the younger/smaller one (who is the lefty).
Since I have a few decent right handed rifles I wanted to get my lefty something a little nicer than the plastic stocked offerings. I ended up finding a used rem. 700 in .243 with a shortish (I think 20 or 21") barrel. I also found a CDL stock with a youth appropriate LOP and swapped them out, keeping the original stock for when he is older.
if you decide to go that route, I ended up with a second rem 700 short action left handed youth wood stock that I'd be happy to send you for whatever shipping costs. Previous owner painted it red.

I'm left handed, learned to adjust to a right handed world, it isn't a hill worth fighting just get her a right handed gun.

Just because she's left-handed doesn't mean she needs a left-handed rifle. What is her dominant eye? That will determine if she needs one or not. I'm right-handed, but left-eye dominant so I shoot from my left shoulder.

I concur on checking eye dominance. I am right handed left eye dominate so I shoot pistols with gun in right hand but rifles and shotguns off left shoulder.
It is definitely a hill worth dieing on nowadays. Maybe 20 years ago sure. But it’s honestly not all that hard or even limiting to be able to get left handed guns. All of my ar15 ar10 bolt actions and shotguns are left eject models and none of them I would say I had to make sacrifices in quality to make that choice.
Sure maybe I have to spend 100-200 more per gun for the left handed version but it is absolutely worth it.

I think I might take you up on that.

Got my son a savage axis compact in .243. Great little rifle for him. Only thing it needed a trigger job as it was way to stiff.

If shes left eye dominant yet, there are tons of left handed options available now.
Im a lefty, you have to break your whole shooting position to operate a right handed bolt action. That takes lots of time when she could need another shot.

A quality single shot rifle is also an option. My CVA Scout shoots great.
Us lefty’s have been screwed over from spiral notebooks to playing infield in MLB. By all means, get that young lady the correct bolt for her dominant eye. Weatherby has made a bolt with an adjustable stock. I believe it came in .308 and maybe other calibers. Worth a look it they still make it.

Good answer. I love my scout.

Came here to post the same. CVA scout is a great option. I have 2 and about to buy a 3rd. I love them.

As others have said, eye dominance is key. If she is right eye dominant, it is better to learn to shoot right handed.
My friend is left handed, right eye dominant. He shoots rifles, shotguns and bows right handed, but still shoots a pistol left handed.
ETA: another vote for the CVA scout. Just make sure to tighten down the stock screw and loctite the base screws.
