Makes no sense to me

Long time reader, rarely post - it don't make sense to me why LK would entertain any public intent on changing schools in season. Loss of goodwill locally and nationally, there will likely be many folks not liking hiring a coach that would entertain this in season, etc. why not wait until end of season. If you're in that much demand the jobs will still be there then. What am I missing?

Same reason that Les Miles flirted with Arkansas and Michigan. It creates a seller's market and drives up his contract.

Supposedly he’s “matured” but take a good look at all the moves he’s made and nothing will surprise you about Kiffin. Ask TN fans what they think.

He’s already at $9M at ole miss and they would likely pay him a few more if he stays. It’s not the money, that’s already there. I really don’t see him leaving but just my opinion. I also wouldn’t be mad if he did leave for LSU.

$, portal window, signing day

his agent, who is definitely acting on LK's behalf, is doing the etnertaining, along with family members. the only thing we know LK has/hasn't done is sign his extension at OM, which is directly related to his agent acting on his behalf.

you don't know that for certain, AND if you're eying a certain job. IF LK says to LSU "I'm good, lets just let this sit until we're done". Does LSU wait? OM isn't waiting now. LK holds all the cards, especially now that OM seems to be getting antsy with his antics. Strike while the iron is hot as there is no guarantee for tomorrow.

Because college football is out of control with coaches salary, NIL, transfer portal just to mention a few.

Ole Miss wants him to make a decision before the egg bowl. Allegedly, They gave him the ultimatum

When jobs like LSU and UF open up back-to-back like this there’s no way in hell he’s gonna stop the speculation from running rampant. When the schools reach out to Sexton of course Sexton is gonna talk to them.
Another huge reason why is that he clearly wants a bigtime job that gives him the opportunity to win multiple natties and both programs offer that. These two programs don’t have openings every year. If he’s interested, which he is, he has to entertain the opportunity when it presents itself.

Then, they hated him.
Now, they would kill to have him.

The timeline is the reality of the situation even though it’s shitty.

It's Ole Miss forcing his hand.

Easy.
He’s poised to cash in on his life’s work. He’s already doing well, of course, but he’s not likely to have another chance at this kind of a pay raise unless he can sustain what he’s doing now at OM.
Which leads to sustainability. His field is a highly competitive one. Outside of Nick Saban, not many have managed to sustain this kind of success. And there’s no job security whatsoever anywhere.
Let’s say that he stays at OM. If that happens, it’ll come with a ridiculous raise, else he has no reason to stay. Along with a ridiculous raise comes ridiculous expectations…like “win now and every year or you’re fired” expectations.
Frankly, the same kind of expectations that got BK fired.
He will have those same expectations no matter where he is because of the money he’ll be getting.
So why stay at OM if you’re going to have the same problems as you’d have anywhere else…unless OM is paying at least as much as anywhere else.
Remember…one shot at this and he could get multi-generational wealth.
That could be at OM. It could be somewhere else. Maybe he secretly hates living in Oxford.
Only he has the answer.
Choose wisely.
P.S.: Choosing LSU over UF is a no-brainer…he can actually get homeowners insurance in BR.

The same issue that’s always been there: schools may not want to wait to hire.
As much as we talk about white whale hunting for new coaches, make no mistake coaches also engage in white whale hunting for job openings.
LSU is a white whale job opening. If Kiffin, or any other coach, wants a job like this, striking while the iron is hot must happen. Just as much as it’s a gamble for LSU to wait until late December or possibly January for Kiffin, if he wants the LSU job, he won’t be able to wait until then either.

Who says it's mid season. He's not going to the SECC game.

Lane has been consistent in saying he is focused on finishing this season. Supposedly Ole Miss tightened the screws on him and wanted a decision earlier. I think Kiffin said fine, and sent his family to Gainesville and Baton Rouge. Now he can always say, I wanted it to be a family decision. I think the reality is he was just buying time and can blame Ole Miss for accelerating things. I don’t think anybody knows what he is going to do. He may not know. I’d say it’s 33/33/34 between LSU, Florida and Ole Miss.
