Chance to win the NC?

It makes no sense.

He would at least wait until after the playoffs to take a new job, wouldn't he?

Unfortunately, the only rational explanation of events is that Kiffin is using LSU to extract concessions from Ole Miss.

I've missed most of tonight's saga, so perhaps someone has offered a compelling countervailing theory.

Why did BK leave ND before playoffs?

Because LSU is a better job

I see. Thanks for the explanation. If true, that is a highly unusual strategy by Ole Miss.

Edit: now that I reflect, how could Ole Miss even level such an ultimatum or enforce it? Kiffin could just claim he was staying, then leave at season's end in any event. I suppose they could try to force Kiffin to agree to some draconian penalty for leaving. I'm not certain that would even be enforceable. Just a bizarre situation.

Because everyone knows Ole Miss while had a great season, is not good enough to win the whole thing. So you make a long term decision

He's not going to leave. He and Sexton are fishing for whatever Ole Miss' best and final number is.

They will make the playoffs but they are a long way from being a favorite to win it all.

Ole Miss is giving him an ultimatum. Are you paying attention?

Because LSU gave him 95 million dollars GUARANTEED to do so.

If LSU offered you 3yrs 30m and Wayne State offered you 10/100 GURANTEED, you'd be coaching at Wayne State the following year.

C'mon, son!

They have an offer on the table for a contract extension at a much higher salary. That offer disappears if he doesn’t sign it by the deadline they have set.

At some point OleMiss can’t continue to play into the Jimmy sexton game. They have to know if they have their guy or is it time to go find someone new. However, I feel like sending your ex wife and brother plus his family is a different move. A very unusual one but a bold one to say the least

Making the playoffs shouldn’t be a once in a. lifetime event for a coach

if he think this is all or nothing moment at OM then that’s why he’s looking at other schools

Ole Miss ain’t doing shite these playoffs. It sucks for him to have to choose (or get forced out) when he’s playoff bound, but it’s a decision he has to make. Short sighted or longterm big picture …

Because if he doesn't leave now, he could lose the LSU job all together. LSU has to be able to recruit and retain now and in order to do that, a foundation needs to be set in order to grow the program. Can not recruit with instability.

He knows he can't win it in addition to other reasons.
