Why wouldn’t it be a done deal?

The head coach of Ole Miss of all teams takes a plane to LSU, knowing full well what kind of firestorm that will get you in Oxford given the history between these two schools, for what, a passing fancy? How can you possibly play that off? You’re can’t.
Think Lane doesn’t know how that will go over? Yes, he knows, which draws me to the conclusion #1 that he will not be coaching Ole Miss next year for certain, and it’s almost surely going to be LSU as Lane’s destination, and I have to believe this has been in the works behind the scenes for quite some time now with Sexton. It’s just now where it gets to the final stretch where the actual in person takes place, and this is it.
Just my .02 cents, and I could be wrong but I really don’t think I am.

You could also use the same logic for him to take the Florida job. As pointed out it was members of his family, but it still stirs up some feelings in Ole Miss fan base.

He wasn’t on that plane. Weather caused his plane to divert to Witchita. He’s found a room at The Braidwood Inn.

Didn’t some of the family go to Gainesville yesterday? I don’t know anything but it makes sense to visit both and evaluate all 3 options. And no telling if anything else on the board.
I suspect he leaves ole miss now but Florida is a nice landing spot too. I think best chance of winning big is lsu but Florida not far behind. N

Why would he accept a job before the deadline Ole Miss imposed? He wants to make as much money as possible and has 3 schools fighting to pay him

According to Stewart Mandel of The Athletic, Ole Miss has reportedly given Kiffin an ultimatum to make a decision on his future before the Rebels’ final game of the regular season against Mississippi State, a.k.a. The Egg Bowl, on Nov. 28.
The ultimatum comes amid reports that Kiffin’s family have taken trips on a private plane to visit Gainesville, Florida and Baton Rouge, Louisiana over the last two days as Kiffin remains a candidate for the LSU and Florida coaching vacancies, per The Advocate and On3.
