So many of you want us to draft OL and DL in the 1st Round, and its A BAD IDEA.

Lets go all the way back to 2016. Yall remember our 1st round pick? Thats right, Sheldon Rankins. Sort of a bust for us.
Since 2016, we've had 10 first round draft picks. How many of those were OL or DL? 8. Our 2 non DL/OL? Marshon Lattimore, and Olave.
So out of 9 OL/DL drafted since 2016, including Rankins, how many of these guys have actually worked out?
Rankins (Bust)
Ramczyk (Great)
Davenport (BUST)
Ruiz (MEH)
Peyton Turner (BUST)
Penning (BUST)
Bresse (Controversial but not great)
Fuaga (Looked okay)
Banks (Good)
Maybe its time to try something different? Because this recipe isnt looking to great.

Did you stop at 2016 because if you went back to 2015 then you would have to include Stephone Anthony as one of the non DL/OL?
Also, how is Ruiz not considered a bust?

That is an implication on Loomis (duh) not drafting big uglies early

The downfall began when we passed on Tunsil for Rankins.

Ruiz was more of a bust than Rankins.

Because if I go back any further, Id also have to include Peat who was also a bust.

rankins and our DL were looking nasty at one point, that achilles injury sucked. I can't fault that pick too much

What a bad take. Rankins was with us for 5 years and had 17.5 sacks, 116 tackles, and 25 TFLs.
Do you really think those are good numbers?

So if you suggest not picking linemen early because the people making the decisions cannot choose the best talent out of the top of the talent pool, How exactly do you suggest they improve the giant holes on the offense and defensive lines?

I agree, if leadership can’t pick the best linemen available in round 1, you think they can pick a good one in round 5?

for a 3-tech leading up into his achilles injury? absolutely was good for a DT - 14 sacks in 3 years. That injury derailed his career and has never looked close to that version

Ruiz ranks as the 86th guard in the NFL.
Their are only 64 starting garden in the league.
He is bad and always has been bad.
Rankins was average to above average at times.

We want that Lb/ De who plays for
Ohio State.
Best and most versatile Defensive Player in the entire Draft !!!

Just because we have sucked at drafting lineman doesn't mean we don't have a huge need and also doesn't mean you quit trying. Hopefully the odds are in our favor to succeed at these picks eventually

There are so many areas where we need to get better and younger. All my buddies love doing mock drafts and I applaud them. However, It’s impossible to really dig into any of this until: Saints draft position is finalized and FA period comes & goes. There’s still quite a bit of season left.

This conversation is dumb because you have a fundamental lack of understanding of what a bust is. In your mind a player is a bust if he's not an all-star. There are levels between bust and all-star.
You cite Sheldon Rankins and Peat as busts. Both players were starters for much of their careers; rotational players at times. Neither were top 10 picks yet enjoyed long careers in the NFL. Peat is in his 11th season and is a x3 Pro-Bowler. Rankins is in his 10th season and still on an active roster, lasting three times longer than the average defensive lineman in the NFL.
Busts are players top 5 overall, supposedly can't miss prospects that end up lasting 1-3 years, then can't crack an NFL roster.

All this proves is the Saints Scouting Dept doesn’t know their Azz from a Hole In The Ground when it comes to drafting linemen either OL or DL !!
We need a NEW Scouting Dept !!!

I'd take issue with Brussels. I think as a nose guard/ DT he has played quite well.
