Hypothetically, Saban agrees to come to LSU and signs a massive, fully guaranteed contract for 3-4 years.
What happens if he passes away during his time at LSU. Is LSU on the hook for the remainder of the contract or is it voided?
I'm only asking because he is 74 and death is a real possibility for all of us as we age, whether we like it or not. It's also worth mentioning that Saban has an A-type personality and stress can be a real killer.
I also ask because we recently paid $18M to O, and from the looks of it, LSU will be writing another big check to CBK real soon, so finances could become an issue down the road.

Great question and I’m sure the legal eagles on here have an answer.
my guess would be a contract like this has clauses in it to deal with situations like this. Also, I’m sure one or both parties probably insure themselves for situations like this.
How did LSU handle the Bo Rein situation?

I dont recall but I would expect an “unable to work” clause of some sort.

Simple answer. Bury him in TS. Now that can be called Saban Field!

Are you making a play for a Rant Dead Pool?

Yea, when someone dies, you’re no longer financially responsible for their contract UNLESS that’s written in the Contract which NO ONE DOES!! LMFAO

Kelly Contract
Section 11 E is the applicable section. Link taken from the Tiger Rant stickied thread entitled Brian Kelly's full Contract.

Damn Woodward was worse than we thought. This dude guaranteed his contract after his death?!? Give me that deal.

What? Obviously you did not read the section 11 E.

Were any coaching contracts guaranteed in those days? I know the money was more in line with a good job than generational wealth. There was considerable outrage when LSU made Saban the first million dollar man.

It's clear you know very little about college football. In case you didn't know, Saban is not your run of the mill college coach, so what applies to other coaches, doesn't apply to Saban. I encourage you to do some research and you will learn he was a pretty good coach and won a few games and a few NCs.
You will also learn things change quickly in college football and things that "no one does," no longer holds water!
10 years ago, college coaches weren't given guaranteed contracts and massive buyouts
3 years ago, college players couldn't get paid legally
A few years ago, school could be placed on probation for buying a player a coke
5 years ago, college players had to wear knee pads, but now they can wear short shorts
A few years ago, a player had to sit a year after transferring
Before you go around making broad statements like, "no one does that," you need to understand Saban isn't just a normal college coach and he creates trends, not follows them.

contract language should address these situations...
