22 Creedmoor

This is me too! so many wildcat rounds coming out that I just checked out for a while and now that I'm back to looking for something new I'm committed to sticking to a common standard round.

Two totally different cartridges (apples vs. oranges) .... 22LR is a rimfire - 22CM is a centerfire, based on the 6.5CM necked down. Wildcat cartridge that was developed 15 yrs ago by long range shooters who had a desire to shoot heavier bullets in the .22 caliber platform. It's now SAAMI & commercially manufactured for the public. Comparison pic with the 22-250 below

Agreed, and id take the 6.5 over those two. For the exact reason you mentioned I dont think the small bores are a particularly good choice for an Eastern deer hunter who often shoots deer inside of 100 yards and very rarely if ever past 200. A bigger bullet with lower muzzle velocity is going to be more consistent.

Now if you want to talk killing deer at 800 yards, much different conversation.

22cm <<<<<< 22ARC

I have some standard calibers and like traditional calibers, 270, 25-06, 30-06, 243 etc. but enjoy dabbling in the new stuff as well.

Have never shot the 22 Creedmoor but a very light recoiling round with good energy, minimal drop and wind drift out to 300 yards sounds fun.

As others have said, the options are too limited for me to jump in right now but will probably grab one if the rifles are made by Howa, Tikka, Ruger, Browning and others that won’t break the bank. I also reload so not terribly worried about ammunition.

With the 2-year agreement between Hornady and Horizon having expired, I really hope it becomes more mainstream.

As far as those who say, you don’t need another caliber, they are correct. But they don’t need all the calibers they have either.

90% or more of us on this board could do all of our deer hunting with a 30/30 lever action but we will take to the woods this season with some 243, 30-06, 308, 350 Legend, 6.5 Grendel and the list goes on. We buy more guns and calibers just because we can and not because we need them.

I have the mainstay calibers like 9mm, 45 acp, 12 gauge, 22 LR, 5.56 and 7.62 in abundance, but like others as well.

The 22 Creedmoor suppressed would be great for me to use while laying atop the pole barn and watching yotes out to 400 yards coming across the pasture.

I have seen many videos of folks using the 22 Creedmoor on African plains game, whitetail, mule deer, coyotes and even black bear. The round is more than capable of taking whitetail.

Hoping someone has actual experience with one and can share that.

That's an arsenal that would cover the needs of most hunters. OTOH, I take 4 handguns w/ me when I go on a prairie dog hunt. Those that hunt w/ me would agree I'm not like "most hunters."

For the record, my pd guns are: 17 Remington Fireball, 20 VarTarg, 223 Ackley Improved and 22 Nosler. One of my pd hunting buddies is building a 22 Nosler for pd hunts, but it's not done yet. I'm hoping to see it in action next spring.
