Any 22 Creedmoor owners here? If so, what are your thoughts on the round?
Looks like a fun round for whitetail and coyotes.
I am interested in getting a rifle but am waiting until they go mainstream.
Would love a Tikka T3 in 22 Creedmoor.

I think I have caliber exhaustion at this point so I haven’t been paying attention.
I’m more into buying the right rifle for what I want to do at this point. Shorter barrel lengths, threaded so I can use a can, weight of rifle(if I want a light rifle),
This is how I justify a new gun now
I wish I would have kept it to the following calibers:
.22
.223 AR
22/250 bolt
.243
.270
.308 bolt and AR
.300 win bolt and AR

I see no point in shooting a whitetail with it.

IMO I really only need 3 calibers to hunt and plink just about anything, .22lr, 5.56, 300prc.

This is me too! so many wildcat rounds coming out that I just checked out for a while and now that I'm back to looking for something new I'm committed to sticking to a common standard round.

Same thinking here, .22lr, 5.56, but .300wby

so what the heck exactly is a 22 creedmoor and how is it better or worse than 22LR?

Its a necked down 6.5 creedmoor. Shoots 22 caliber bullets, mainly heavy weights for the class.
If I had a coyote or pig problem and a lot of land with some further than normal shots, itd be a good choice.

Two totally different cartridges (apples vs. oranges) .... 22LR is a rimfire - 22CM is a centerfire, based on the 6.5CM necked down. Wildcat cartridge that was developed 15 yrs ago by long range shooters who had a desire to shoot heavier bullets in the .22 caliber platform. It's now SAAMI & commercially manufactured for the public. Comparison pic with the 22-250 below

It *can* make a lot of sense for some people. Its a great long range hunting smallbore due to the low recoil, fast twist and high velocity. If youre never going to shoot far (500+ yards) and want a .22 centerfire, there's no advantage over a regular 1:7 or 1:8 .223
And if youre just a normal deer hunter like most people in the southeast are, just get a .270 .308 .30-06 or 6.5 man bun. Theres no reason to jack with the oddball ammo market. Every store that sells ammo in the entire country will have decent hunting ammo on the shelf for those 4 calibers for the rest of the century.

I'd lean toward the 6cm over the .22cm for deer hunting
That .22 will be so fast that not many bullets that you could shoot that would not grenade. Doubt there are any that would give a pass through inside 400yds

Agreed, and id take the 6.5 over those two. For the exact reason you mentioned I dont think the small bores are a particularly good choice for an Eastern deer hunter who often shoots deer inside of 100 yards and very rarely if ever past 200. A bigger bullet with lower muzzle velocity is going to be more consistent.
Now if you want to talk killing deer at 800 yards, much different conversation.

Agree completely.

It’s roughly comparable to a .243 in velocity at a given bullet weight, and plenty of whitetail got killed with one of those last weekend. The point is that it’s another low recoil option that can also double as a good long range toy if you’re into that. It’s not available enough for me currently but it’s plenty capable and hopefully becomes more common by the time my son is old enough to shoot.

I have some standard calibers and like traditional calibers, 270, 25-06, 30-06, 243 etc. but enjoy dabbling in the new stuff as well.
Have never shot the 22 Creedmoor but a very light recoiling round with good energy, minimal drop and wind drift out to 300 yards sounds fun.
As others have said, the options are too limited for me to jump in right now but will probably grab one if the rifles are made by Howa, Tikka, Ruger, Browning and others that won’t break the bank. I also reload so not terribly worried about ammunition.
With the 2-year agreement between Hornady and Horizon having expired, I really hope it becomes more mainstream.
As far as those who say, you don’t need another caliber, they are correct. But they don’t need all the calibers they have either.
90% or more of us on this board could do all of our deer hunting with a 30/30 lever action but we will take to the woods this season with some 243, 30-06, 308, 350 Legend, 6.5 Grendel and the list goes on. We buy more guns and calibers just because we can and not because we need them.
I have the mainstay calibers like 9mm, 45 acp, 12 gauge, 22 LR, 5.56 and 7.62 in abundance, but like others as well.
The 22 Creedmoor suppressed would be great for me to use while laying atop the pole barn and watching yotes out to 400 yards coming across the pasture.
I have seen many videos of folks using the 22 Creedmoor on African plains game, whitetail, mule deer, coyotes and even black bear. The round is more than capable of taking whitetail.
Hoping someone has actual experience with one and can share that.

You haven’t wounded enough deer already with a 264 Creedmoor so now you want to go to 224?

That's an arsenal that would cover the needs of most hunters.
For the record, my pd guns are: 17 Remington Fireball, 20 VarTarg, 223 Ackley Improved and 22 Nosler. One of my pd hunting buddies is building a 22 Nosler for pd hunts, but it's not done yet. I'm hoping to see it in action next spring.

I deer hunt about as much as anyone and you won’t see me with one.
It’d be fine for a doe killing rifle, but not for serious deer hunting.
We had a boy hunting with a 22-250. He shot a buck and a doe one morning. Very little blood, a tracking dog opened up by a buck hookin, and no deer was how that ended up.
