A progressive activist appears to be on the cusp of winning her bid for mayor of Seattle in a narrow victory that has echoes of the race to lead New York City.

With a dwindling number of ballots left to count, Katie Wilson led Mayor Bruce Harrell by just over 1,300 votes, according to results released Tuesday by King County Elections. The incumbent led by more than 10,000 votes the day after the election but mail-in ballots counted after Nov. 4 favored the challenger.

“Kate Wilson won 61.23% of the 6,121 ballots counted today. Huge percentage and her total is close to not requiring a recount,” Crystal Fincher, a Seattle-based political consultant, said by text after the latest results. “I’m comfortable calling this race for Wilson now.”

Wilson, who like New York’s Zohran Mamdani is a self-described socialist, focused her campaign on affordability — highlighting her own struggles to afford life in Seattle. She supported a capital gains tax to raise revenue, a move opposed by Harrell, stronger protections for renters and improving public transit.

Fincher said that message resonated in a city where housing has become out-of-reach for many of its citizens.

Wilson also pledged to do more to address homelessness, including fast-tracking shelter space, and was critical of Harrell’s support for clearing encampments from public spaces around Seattle. She called for cutting police funding in the past, but in this campaign called for changing tactics and adding more non-police response programs to supplement law enforcement.

If something that is dead, dies, is it dead-er?

I spend a fair amount of time in that city

What isn't being said is that the current Mayor, did absolutely everything the socialists and commies wanted. Everything!

Yet, they still voted him out because he was opposed by any even further leftist in Wilson.

The social constructs of the city are interesting. It's the headquarters to many pure capitalism companies, yet the local vibe is pure commie on the ground.

I lol that their favorite athlete in the city is a country bumpkin from rural North Carolina.

There's no pleasing these types. I just hope the city is economically diverse enough that it can survive wilson.

Portland, on the other hand, is toast.

PNW has a lot to explore and experience, particularly east of the cascades but it gets a bad rap for a reason.

At least Harrell took a stronger stance with encampments and my company hasn't been surrounded as bad. With that and more anti business taxes the owner confided in me that he is planning to move outside of city limits. My commute will suck, not sure if I can do it.

He was ahead after the election last week but of course as I expected then the late votes come in.
Why is it the more left you are the later you vote?
They always seem to find boxes of uncounted votes here in the witching hour.

She will fit right in with the socialist Seattle PD. Video below of a man assaulting two teen hockey refs and how two "male" and I use that term lightly, deal with it. Sadly, the off duty female cop who saw it happen had more testicular fortitude.
