So many marriages end in divorce that it's hard to take weddings serious.
The whole thing seems like such nonsense.
Hard not to laugh when brides come strolling down the aisle wearing white.
We're supposed to suspend reality and pretend she hasn't banged 50 dudes already.

I'm more of a pragmatist when it comes to weddings. Give me my closest friends and family, actual good food, and a DJ.

Fancy catered wedding food is a racket.

idk isn't the tradition for the bride's family to pay for the wedding?

seems like a good deal to me for a ring

find you a loyal one that is funny smart and ruthless

Yeah, because half of marriages don't end in divorce, I just made that up.
And all of these brides wearing white are actually virgins, silly me.

Your Tin Foil hat is a little too tight

Yep. The only people who care are the two people getting married and the immediate family members. Well, the women family members. Everybody else is there for the free drinks and food.

I dropped 75k on my oldest daughter’s wedding last May and it broke me. I’m still trying to recover from it. My wife and daughter just went nuts. And I barely got so much as a thank you. Never again.

That's where you went wrong. You SHOULD have said, "Daughter, you have a budget of xx,xxx dollars. Go do whatever you want as long as you don't exceed the budget."

And then immediately followed up by confiscating the checkbook, hoarding all credit cards, and removing your wife's name from your bank account.

But that's just me.

I mean. You did that wrong.

The week we got engaged, my dad handed me a check for $X and said “anything beyond this is on yall - can’t wait to attend”.

I doubled it with my own money, and it was a wonderful time for our family.

Weddings and funerals are the most senseless waste of money. You're not any more married or less dead by spending 10s of thousands of dollars on either.

How about you be a man and get control of your life?

I blame you but also blame your wife, daughter and son in law. These people can sit back and just let a man waste $75k in a fricking party? You’re probably a guy who has been working for decades and thinking about retirement. Yet they have no issue with you dumping a huge bucket of cash. No respect

I started a thread on the poli board about divorce

The divorce rate peaked in 1980

8 Facts about divorce

quote:

Why has the divorce rate declined? One reason has to do with who is most likely to get married these days. Over time, the married population has shifted toward adults with higher levels of education as people with lower levels of education have become less likely to marry. Adults with more education are less likely to divorce, and these shifts have driven down the divorce rate.
