he was a rebel fighter who disavowed ISIS. a lot of the “terrorists” from Syria were essentially rebel militias looking to overthrow their government.

Ahh yes, typical America. Let's overthrow the guy who has the closest set of ideals to most Americans and protects Christians. Then install the same person we have spent trillions of $ and thousands of US lives fighting. Then invite them to the white house for a photo ops.

I have not looked at it in a lot of detail but it appears from the 50,000 point of view while Russia diddles and waste resources in Ukraine the U.S. is firming up control in the “the Five Stan” countries to keep Iran busy and block China’s One Belt and Road initiative. IDK how Syria comes into play here other than kicking Russia out.
